Re: ***4Legs***

  • You are so sweet to ask after us! It went wonderfully! He had a moderate posterior and anterior tie. The dr was awesome - I would recommend him to anyone, so nice and respectful. He let me hold him during the procedure and we fed right after. He is fumbling around some learning how to latch with his new tongue and has spit up a few times since he isn't used to getting so much at once, but I just know it is for the better!

Hopefully our 6 hours of nursing is dmished a little Smile

How are you? Are you feeling good?

  • I am so glad to hear the procedure went well!  It sounds so scary, but if he was able to try and eat right after it couldn't have been too bad, right? So he is latching better and taking in more milk? How about the gas? I really hope the feedings get more efficient for you.

I feel you with the 6 hours of nursing. Everyone told me the first few weeks you will feel like you are nothing but a giant boob for your baby so I thought the time spent was normal.  The nurse who told me he had the tongue tie made it sound like if it caused any problems he wouldn't latch at all.  Since  he did latch decently and keeps gaining a lot of weight I never really thought about it causing our (somewhat minor) problems.  We just deal with the frequent nursing and a lot of gas.  He has an appointment next week so I am trying to hold out going in to the Dr. early since there are always sick kids in there.  In the meantime I keep trying to get to the nursing moms group to have an LC check out his latch again but we keep sleeping through it!!Sad

Oh and how is the infection? I feel so bad for you guys that have to deal with that too.

  • The yeast infection is on the mend! I went with oral and topical stuff right off the bat so we got it in check pretty quickly. Still have two weeks of oral but the pain is only slightly discomforting now, not razor blades anymore!

I hope you get to talk to someone soon. He literally only cried for a minute - it was really easy. Harrison weighed 11.2 at 6 weeks so he was gaining weight really well but the pedi ENT told me that it was a sign of my patience and care Smile Also, they will change the shape of the nipple over time to compensate for the inadequacies of the tongue. I too thought it was an all or nothing but that is obviously not the case. He is still fumbling some but the biggest things I have noticed in the first 24 hours is that he latches comfortably immediately and there is no popping or clicking noise when he eats, he isn't choking anymore while eating and he seems to be more satisfied after his meals - basically he goes into a milk coma every time! We are still feeding frequently because that has just been our schedule but I expect that to change as the days go by - the sessions are down to 5-10 minutes though - that is fine by me! He has also been struggling with bottles with DH and the ENT said they can have a harder time with bottles and it can choke them since they can't manipulate the nipple as well which is why he may be hesitant to take one. DH will try again this weekend and see if he is any better with it.

Not sure about the gas yet but I am keeping an eye out for that also - hopefully that gets better.

Let me know when/if you get an evaluation - I would do it again in a heartbeat!
