Trying to Get Pregnant

Oh DH

Last night my hubby and I DTD, and today he turns to me and asks, "Hey! do you have any of those Birth Stick thingys?" (waves hand as if holding a flag) "You can test after 24hrs right? At least I think that's what the advertisement said."Indifferent

I haven't even ovulated yet. I didn't have the strength to explain things to him.

Oh you silly, sad little man...*le sigh*

I found out yesterday my DH thinks I ovulate once a week.

My FI is in utter disbelief that you cannot get pregnant any day of the month.  This really baffles him even after I show him everything I have about the fertile window, ovulation and all that!  I guess he has really never been interested enough to find out, but it still seems weird to me that he would not know how it works!  Maybe he knows, but just wants to try all month long :)

  • I think we get it drilled into our heads when we are teenagers (or at least I did) that if you have unprotected sex JUST ONCE, you will be pregnant.  Guys I think are also told that.  So it comes as a little shocking to know that this isn't actually the case.  Or at least, that getting pregnant is not quite as easy as our parents and sex ed. teachers made it seem.  I was actually just saying to my husband that if I'd known how hard getting pregnant could be, we would have thrown out the condoms a long time ago.

I have a friend who has been pregnant twice who thinks this.  She thinks as soon as she has any unprotected sex (no matter where in her cycle) she has to abstain from drinking until she gets AF.  She's not dull either, she's a university professor!

  • My otherwise very smart husbandcslso doesn't undersrand the FW.  Nothing has worked to expiain it to him.   I 'think' the fact that we are about to enter cycle#4 might get his attention....I hope.
  • Mine had no clue about anything...he cannot believe how hard it can be. I haven't had a period for over 3 years Mirena so he never really had to deal with it. AF came over the weekend and only lasted 3 days. He said "this whole period thing really sucks." Poor guy...

  • LOL, my DH belongs in the clueless couch too! And we took NFP together when we were planning our wedding. He thought I ovulated during my period. Really DH? I just looked at him and asked "do you even remember NFP?" And he honestly told me no. At least he was honest...

Someone needs to watch the Great Sperm Race.

i don't remember how but this came up in conversation with us the other day.  And I told him about the Great Sperm Race.  Now I think he's watched all the videos.

So last night he tells me "I think your body needs to be nicer to my sperm" and he was so surprised we are born with all the eggs we get.

I do think the education need to change.

  • I have tried to explain the whole TTC process to my DH on  multiple occaisions. He just told me to tell him when we can/should do it and leave it at that. For a man with a genius IQ, he doesn't quite grasp the basics of the female reproductive system and how they work with making a baby.

Maybe in, say, senior year, rather than the basic 5th grade presentation. I could see teaching a bunch of young teenagers how the body truly works. They'd all think that it's such an impossibility to get pregnant, they wouldn't use condoms and teen pregnancy would be worse than it is.

In my (California) school, we did Sex Ed as freshmen. The method was clearly scare tactics.

I kind of prefer that - I'd rather do the bulk of the teaching to any daughters we are lucky enough to have.
