Okay, maybe I just need to keep researching this, but can someone please explain to me the controversy starting WCM. I understand some babies have issues with dairy and some are not developed enough to process the milk.
Our pedi gave us the green light to start introducing WCM at 9-months, she said to substitute an ounce a week until fully on WCM (starting then, but we still waited till 10 1/2 months).
We have been giving her an ounce or two so far each day (starting this past weekend).
My LO eats VERY well - not saying a lot at a time, but she eats a very good variety and she is not very picky. We try to focus heavily on her getting balanced meals each day.
She has no dairy issues - eating cottage cheese, yogurt, cheese, etc already.
Cliff notes please? Should we continue as our pedi recommended or keep going with only formula until a year?
Re: WCM - break it down for me...
The American Academy of Pedriatics recommends waiting until 1 year.

Well, I'm not one to listen to every word the doc say.
Our doc is very, very "by the book" and doesn't always understand that every baby is different. We haven't switched for a number of reasons but not getting into that.
1 year is not a magical number. It isn't like they wake up on their first birthday and POOF!!! They can suddenly do all kinds of things and eat all kinds of things.
I was once told by a lactation consultant friend that as long as there are no dairy issues with yogurt, cheese, etc. WCM can be started around 10/11 months. Sometimes 9. I want DD weaned by about a year. From BM and formula. I started her on WCM yesterday. She will be 11mo tomorrow. No issues so far. We are doing it gradually like what your doc recommended. One ounce at a time, wait a few days, add another ounce, etc.

This information was on their preprinted material that they give to all parents at the 9-month check-up. It was also discussed at the appointment (that she could start then), this seems to be the informaton they give all parents (assuming milestones are being met and no other issues are present). Just wanted to see everyone else was being told (or what y'alls thoughts were).

Formula is expensive. DD is in the process of weaning from nursing. She is showing signs of being done with it and I am more than done. That is why we are starting milk now. It is the decision we have made.

This. I want my boobs back to a normal size.
i don't post often, but I check in from time to time. This is a topic we are dealing with now too. I want to start WCM because we are both ready to be done with nursing. Also we want to TTC and my cycle is all crazy so weaning will hopefully regulate that.
I plan to start introducing WCM in a sippy cup once DS turns 11 months (next week). I likely won't completely wean him until 12-13 months.
This is basically the plan here too. I want DD completely weaned no later than 14mo. I started the WCM one day before she turned 11mo. I would be pushing weaning a little more but with the teething and the cold, we are taking a break.
