Dentist?

Just curious what your thoughts are about going to the dentist while TTC? I have an appointment to get cavities filled on the 12th, which is the day we will start trying again for the month. Do you think I should cancel? Is it okay for me to get all the medication pumped into me when we're TTC? Thoughts? Thanks!

Definitely go. You want to keep your teeth in good shape...pregnancy hormones can wreak havoc on your gums and teeth. You'll be fine.

Thanks, everyone! I just had no idea if the medication would affect TTC or stay in my system long enough to affect the baby when/if I get pregnant.

I just had oral surgery last week and told them I was TTC. They just asked when the 1st day of my last period was and since it was too early to have conceived, they went ahead and knocked me out. Apparently that stuff doesn't stick with you too long. You should be fine.

ETA: Also, "All that medication" Isn't it only Novocaine that they give you? It's out of your system relatively quickly. It's not something that you have to 'wean' off of before TTCing.

Yes. It's just Novocaine/Lidocaine, which is a local pain block. It is even safe to have it while pregnant . I had a wart removed (eww) from my toe while I was pregnant and my MW said the lidocaine injection was fine.

My DH is a dentist, so he says go to the dentist! Everything that they will do on you is safe for pregnancy and while your TTC. And during that time your teeth are more sensitive to cavities, etc. So make sure you go.

I got a cavity filled a few days before I got my BFP with DS and he's a healthy and happy little guy
