Naps and curtains

Im trying to nap train my baby to nap in crib. I wanted to know if u close your curtains or leave them open. Shes a bad napper as we used swing before this, but has been napping for over 2 hrs with them closed. I dont know its bc shes comfy or if she thinks its bedtime.

Re: Naps and curtains

  • Curtains are closed so room is a little dark

  • Closed. Everything else is a different routine, like he is not swaddled, to hopefully help distinguish nap versus bedtime.

  • We keep them open during the day to help distinguish between a nap and bedtime, though he's now in daycare, so it's not really an option during the week, but before he started daycare, I kept them open.
  • closed it is not as dark during the day as it is at night.

  • I have been wondering about this as well.  I have read many different things.  One book says to keep them open so they can learn the difference between nap and bed.  And the other one I have says to make the room as dark as possible.  Not sure what to do.

  • My curtains are thin so it really doesn't matter. During the day the room is bright.
But I wonder what to do during the evening when it's dark outside. Do you leave a light on in the room?
And now I'm thinking how next month we will change clocks and it will be light out for a long time. I guess it will be time to get dark curtains.
  • this is good feedback.. you made  a great point  kemare.  i'll try keeping more light in the room so she can get aclamated to sleeping in the light.   the room is so bright so i think ill have to close some curtains, but maybe not all of them.

she seems to be napping now that she is in the crib.. fingers crossed that this keeps working

I have room darkening blinds and during naps I leave them cracked so the room is pretty dim but not pitch dark like when I pull them all the way down.

I don't think there is a right or a wrong way. I think if you can get your baby to nap in full/nearly full light is probably ideal as then baby can sleep anywhere. If we are out and about I have to put a blanket over my DS's face until he falls asleep otherwise he won't go to sleep.

    totally agree with you Kemare
