Re: HELP! Not sleeping through the night anymore!!

  • It is totally normal for a baby to not sleep through the night at 5-6 months old. They might be hungry, they might be teething, they might just be waking up between sleep cycles for no reason. If they don't settle back down within 5 minutes, it's fine to offer a bottle.

You can try CIO/sleep training, but be forewarned that this is probably going to happen off and on for quite some time - whenever they are sick or sleeping in a strange place or their schedules get off, it can mess up sleep. It's just part of babyhood :)

  • Ours and about 6 and a half months old and just started sttn last week. Now they are both sick and are back to getting up. At this age anything goes still. Heck my 7 year old doesn't always sttn!

  • My daughter was sleeping through the night at 3 months, but at six months started waking up again through the night. I think that lasted roughly 6 weeks, and she was back to STTN. It gets better :

  • My daughter started this too- well when I went in she would giggle and be happy to see me. It's a stage. There was no teething or wet diaper etc she just wanted to see me. I stopped it by letting her cry for 20 minutes then I would go in and say go to sleep and by day 2 it was over. Mine started sleeping through the night at 4 months and there was no way I was giving that up.
  • At that age, it kind of comes and goes.  They would STTN for a few days and then start waking up again.  I'm sure growth spurts don't help with the late night hunger either.  Now mine are making it through the night more consistently, but it has only been the past couple of weeks.  Give it time.
