Disney & Sensory Issues - Our Trip

We were there 3 Nights/4 Days with a 3Day park hopper pass.

Our  trip started out a little later than I had planned, so after sitting in a car for several hours everyone was a little testy...but we pushed ourselves to the park the same day. We were able to first pick up a Guest Assistance Card from Guest Services at Magic Kingdom which we were able to manage the rides with low crowd waiting areas.

We also had a (late) character breakfast on Day 2, so it was two days of late park visits and although we went during the "low season" we had a lot of stimulation going on for DS (and us) with the crowds being quite large!

Although Day 1 & 2 were quite exhausting emotionally & physically - on Day 3, it was easy breezy for us.  We mapped out which rides were "kids friendly" that morning and went at rope drop - we were able to get to all of the rides before lunch time and we completed Magic Kingdom in 3 days.  There were crowds on Day 3 that we saw, but we were leaving when it was getting busy :)

Looking back, if we started out early in the morning every day of our trip it would be much more manageable.  However due to scheduling conflicts with breakfast & travel times, we just did the best we could :)

I think DH has some sensory issues as well, because he would get "grumpy/testy" at the same times DS was, and was happy at the same times DS was.  When they both got testy, they wouldn't eat - DH said he couldn't focus on eating lunch when the park was nuts.

Of course their maturity levels are quite different,  so luckily I didn't have a 6foot man kicking his feet & arms at the front of the castle ;)  Although that would be quite funny to video tape.  We are already thinking about when we should go back, but this time we have some experience under our belt of what our family could tolerate and what it can't...we loved it still!

Re: Disney & Sensory Issues - Our Trip

  • Glad to hear that! We've been wanting to go, but I really wasn't sure how overwhelming it all would be.

  • May I ask what a guest assistance card is that helped you manage the rides? We have talked about doing Disney in the next couple of years but with finding out about C's SPD I was starting to wonder how we would manage it.

  • Hi, just lurking.

Just wanted to say I'm happy you guys had a great time. I work at WDW, and I really take pride in the fact that we treat everyone like they are our #1 guest.
