Ok Ladies, since our LO are within a month of each other at the most, I am hoping your answers help me more than the 6-9 month board.
How much is your LO eating now? The pedi gave me a feeding guide, but I must be so organized that I filed it away in a perfect spot (so perfect that I can't find it--OY!).
Anyway here is what I give DS on a daily basis, (Please let me know which of the three bears this is--too much, too little, or just right [;0]).
-Morning 8:15ish: about 1.5-2 tbsp each of oatmeal with cinnamon and usually a fruit or yogurt followed by 4 oz bottle of formula
-Mid-morning 11:30ish he gets 2 tbsp each of oatmeal and a veg or fruit at the sitter's with a few puffs for practice; followed by a 7 oz bottle (if we are out and about on the weekend he may not get the solids)
-Afternoon usually 3:30ish another 7 oz bottle
-Evening 6:30ish: 2 tbsp each of veg and fruit; sippy cup of water and puffs for pracice, followed by a 4 oz bottle
-Bedtime 8-8:30ish: 6-7 oz bottle
Depending on how he naps sometimes he will get a 7 oz bottle and then his solids in the evening.
What do you think ladies, am I on track? I am not so worried about the formula as DS gets between 29 and 32 oz a day now, but how am I doing on the solids? DS loves them and usually wants more, but I don't want to give him too much of those.
TIA!
Re: DS feeding amount--am I on track with DS?
Here is what we typically do in a day. Now, keep in mind, DS is at the 50% percentile, and the doc said to let him eat what he wants as often as he wants along with bottle in between. So:
Morning (8ish): 2oz of fruit mixed with probably 3T of cereal, small amount of juice
Mid Morning (10:30ish): 6-8oz bottle
Afternoon (1ish): 2oz each of fruit and veggie, water and puffs/yogurt drops
Snack: 2-3 oz yogurt
Snack #2 (4ish): 6oz bottle
Evening Supper (6ish): 2oz meat w/ veggies, 2oz fruit, puffs, yogurt drops, water
Nite Nite time (8ish): 10oz bottle
I think my kid eats alot, but again, he is gaining right where he should, isn't chunky, is still pretty lean and very strong. Doc said he needs the extra calories, and it is obvious he isn't putting on fat. So my LO is eating way more than yours NSY....I think you are doing just fine.
It is all based on what baby wants anyhow, they are all different.
630 nurse or bottle, 8 oz.
8ish solids, 2 to 4 tbsp dependin
930 nap
11 nurse or bottle, 8 oz
12ish solids, 2 to 4 tbsp dependin
115 or 130 na
3 nurse or bottle, 8 oz
5ish solids, 2 to 4 tbsp dependin
645 nurse or bottle to sleep, 8 oz
DS gets puffs at every meal and gets water is a sippy cup. If he doesn't want solids, I don't push it. He eats 6 to 8 oz from bottles when they are offered. HTH.
DD is almost a full month older than your DS but she's been eating this way for a while.
She is a bottomless pit but in the 20th percentile so I let her eat as much finger foods as she wants. We BF and she's dairy/soy free so that's different but here's what she gets for solids:
Breakfast at DC - finger foods if it's something she can have, if not then 1/4 cup oatmeal and finger food fruit.
Lunch - again finger foods if she can, she can almost always have the fruits and veggies at least, if she can't have the main dish I send a 4oz jar or something from home, which she usually demolishes.
Sometimes she gets cheerios or a graham cracker as a snack at DC in the afternoon - after her 3-4pm bottle.
Dinner - eats what we eat. If she can't she gets a jar and some warmed up veggies/meat from the freezer.
Because of the no dairy I try to make sure at least one of her meals has a good protein - eggs for breakfast, meat or beans for lunch and/or dinner. Her favorite meal lately has been bean soup with ham - LOVES it.
She eats a lot. Seriously. There have been some meals lately where she out eats my toddler. The other night she had a half cup of peas, half a cup of cauliflower (steamed), and half a chicken tenderloin (shredded) and probably 75% made it into her mouth.
7-730am - 8oz bottle formula
8am - oatmeal with fruit/cheerios
11am - 8oz bottle
1230pm - lunch which is usually whatever we are eating so cheese toast, ham-n-cheese rolls, pasta, grilled chicken with a veggie or fruit
4pm - 6-8oz bottle
530pm - dinner is again what we are eating usually.
645pm - 8oz bottle
This is what I did with the other 2 except with ds2 and now with ds3 I'm a lot more lax on measuring stuff out. My only rule is that he always gets a bottle first After that he is allowed to eat table food until he's full.
My little pumpkin does the following
6:30- 7 oz. bottle/nurses
8:30/9:00 naps
10:30/11:30-eats oatmeal with fruit
1:30- 7 oz bottle/nurses
2:00/2:30- naps
3:30/4:00- 7oz. bottle
6:00/6:30 oatmeal with veggie
8:00/8:30 7 oz bottle/nurses
8:30/9:00 bed
Wow now that I look at this, maybe I need to reevaluate how much she gets....
