Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Late period

I've never posted before & I'm not sure where would be best to post this but since I had my son I've had one period which was at the beginning of last month the one I assumed would also be around the first of the month has yet to show up. I've been feeling sick a lot like I did when I was pregnant. I've taken a test but it was negative. Is this normal?

Re: Late period

  • My periods after baby took a long time to regulate. It would feel like it was coming, like I would get cramps and PMS symptoms, but no period. It took nearly a year for it to even out after my first child and nearly five months postpartum with my second it's still not regular. If you still don't get a period after a few weeks, you could call your doctor and see what they say.

  • My son is 6 months this week (time to move up in boards it looks like...) and I haven't had my period yet.  I'm certainly not missing it :) but I'm exclusively breastfeeding still, so I don't expect to see it for a bit.  I wouldn't be too worried yet, as it's probably just your body trying to get back to normal and you won't be regular for a bit, but I'd take a second pregnancy test in a few days just to be sure.
  • With my first baby I didnt get my period until she was about 8 months old and then it was very irregular for about 6 months or so afterwards...and my periods have always been clockwork so this was not normal for me. It could be typical post-partum pregnancy return or of course positive pregnancy. Id wait a week or two and take another test. if youre really concerned, ask your dr for a blood test.

  • Thanks everyone. You're probably right I just didn't know how long it could be in between periods. I just wish it would hurry up and get back on track!
  • Yes it's normal. I've had three periods since having DS and none of them have been regular. It can take up to a year to regulate your cycles after having a baby.

As for the sick feeling, it could be a number of different things, including serious things, so if it gets really bad, call your doctor.
