I am looking for a nursery set. Where did everyone buy theirs from? I am thinking crib, changing table and dresser. Another question I have is what is everyones opinion about the cribs that have the changing table attached?? Good idea or better to have seperate? I have looked at babies r us but is there a better place to be looking?
Re: where did everyone buy their crib???
This is my first baby so this is just what I think right now...
I want a crib with a separate changing table because I want to get a convertible crib that I can turn into a regular bed once the baby is older. I don't know if I necessarily want a dresser as well since I have seen a lot of changing table models that are also dressers so I may go with that. We are staying in our apartment for another year so there won't be a separate nursery for the baby..,if baby was going to have their own room, then I might opt for more pieces of furniture just for the sake of filling it.
Babies r Us is really expensive for a lot of stuff, but I have seen crib models I adore at Sears, Burlington and Target.
+1.
Good advice! I'd been eyeing up sets that included changing tables, but I've also seen some cute nursery ideas on pinterest that show using a dresser with a pad on top instead. I think we'll go that route.
Quick opinion from a STM -- a changing table AND a dresser is a waste of furniture. You can easily put a changing pad on top of the dresser and call it good. Most changing tables are just a waste; I know mine was!
As far as the crib goes, I got a 4-in-1 one from Walmart.com and love it. DS is still using it for his toddler bed, but will transition him to a twin bed when we move next week. We'll reassemble it as a crib and use it for #2.
Crib from Target - but I wish I'd gotten a smaller/simpler one from Ikea. Saves space and $, still converts to toddler bed.
Had a changing table, but it now sits unused in the basement because we have the changing pad on top of the dresser.
If you think you might have two kids in diapers at once, I'd highly recommend not having your changing table attached to your crib. Can't imagine needing to change one kid while another is sleeping.
Crib from BRU - only $60. Dresser is from target and has room on top for a changing pad and a cabinet to store diapers and baby necessities.
ILs bought our furniture for DS- Pottery Barn. Crib is convertible but since DS has not tried to climb out yet, we will just switch him to his own big boy bed and keep the crib as is for Peanut.
We have the dresser with changing table attached and still use it. It's pretty nifty.
DH and I found a nice 4 in 1 crib at Walmart by Carters (cheaper than BRU).
I have heard mixed things about the changing table being attached. some peole say its not good because the baby can climb out onto it once they are old enough (personally I think if you have a climber on your hands they are going to try to climb out of the crib with or without it there)
like some of the other posts I've heard the changing table is a waste of time because it hardly gets used.
We used, actually still use, the dresser top with a changing pad on it. I think the changing tables are a waste, unless you plan on just getting a tall dresser.
We got our furniture at a baby furniture shop near us. It's good quality that will last throughout her life. The crib converts to a toddler bed and then a full size bed. I think we may give this set to the new baby though and buy new furniture for Callie so we don't have to buy another crib. We'll decide that later on down the road...if we feel like Callie is ready for a big girl bed.
Did you get the low profile one or the regular one?
Graco convertible crib from Target.
We purchased our Graco Lauren crib for about $100 from Walmart and love it! It's convertible too. That's the only "baby" furniture we have- we have a normal dresser that we put a changing pad on top of for the first few months, a bookshelf for books and bins of toys, an upholstered glider and ottoman (from BRU), and a side table.
I think the combo cribs/changing table are kind of a waste of space.
I bought my DS a set (convertable crib, dresser, changing table) from Walmart.com for a total of $300! It is a fantastic set and we love it!
I love having a changing table and have used it every single day of my son's life. I prefer a table that is not attached to the crib.
We have the Graco Lauren crib as well and we have the changing table. We do use it, but when my in-laws take care of DS, they prefer to change him on the floor, couch, bed or wherever they are. It's just a matter of preference.
One thing I did notice when we were looking for cribs is that the ones with the attached changing table are MUCH smaller than the regular sized ones, so LO won't fit in is as long as they would in a regular changing table.
We got our set from Target- got an amazing deal because the crib was marked wrong so they had to give it to us for the price it said - which was 100 less than what it actually was.
I would price shop online- check Amazon cause they have pretty good deals and free shipping usually for higher priced items.
We got the convertible crib, dresser and a changing table. I did not use one with the other two but there was no space for one.
I have seen some really neat ideas on using the changing table as another piece of decorative furniture on pinterest after the baby gets a little older.
That's awesome! We had a gift card left over from our wedding and we got ours for $35 out of pocket! It was amazing! We have the Kendall, too. I think we might buy another one because I like ours so much!
At about 9 months it got to the point where DS would move so much that it wasn't safe. Apparently they don't like their diapers changed and would rather have the crap stick to their butt all day.
This made me laugh! I am a FTM, but have several nieces and nephews and they are all the same. WHY??? LOL
I love my changing table, so glad it was separate from the dresser. It gives me more space for all her diapers, wipes, lotions, etc. I personally wouldn't like combining the two, but it's really a matter of preference. DD has a big nursery so we had the space.
I got my furniture from BRU, it was a little expensive but its all in great shape so I'm happy with it. I plan on getting a more comfortable glider with baby 2, I want one of the upholstered kind this time. We spent so much time in that glider that it needs to be comfortable!
