Breastfeeding

Nursing in public...AW....

So I just wanted to share this...Today I may or may not have been nursing my little guy in a recliner in a department store (hey, it was comfy and kind of secluded!).  An elderly woman was walking by and stopped in front of me.  I can't remember her exact words, but she said something like, she is so proud of what I was doing; she has 6 kids and nursed all of them.  She thinks it's ridiculous that breastfeeding is so frowned upon when there's so many countries that have nude beaches and everyone here is always half naked anyway.

It's the first time anyone has ever stopped to say anything to me while NIP and it felt wonderful!  Also, later in the mall DS and I had stopped in a little nook with a few benches so he could get out of the stroller for a few; a woman sat down on another bench and started nursing her LO (maybe a toddler?) no cover, nothing.  She was like an old pro.

Seemed like a good day for breastfeeding :)

  • That's wonderful.  Its nice to get positive comments or even the approving smile from other women.  Although it tends to be older women for some reason.

  • i started off going to the little rooms in shopping centre. i dont know if where u live has alot of them but in scotland there are not many and i got fed up with the inconvenience so i dont care where i breastfeed now and i love it. i must say i have had no funny looks from anyone. think its more accepted now that when baby needs fed then they get fed. nice of that woman to say.
  • thats good :)

my friend and I were nursing our babies in a coffee shop and a woman said that it brought back old memories of when her daughter was a baby. Ive been really lucky and have not had a bad encounter nip, knock on wood!

  • That was nice of her!  I BFed my LO on the patio at a restauarant on Saturday.  I have NIP many times, but I think this was the first time MH was around me NIP without a cover.  I think he was a little embarrassed at first but soon realized that not a single person looked twice.

  • I nursed in public for the first time last weekend, when we stopped at McDs. An old man gave me a dirty look, or rather glare, but I also got a few smiles from some women. I use a blanket since my son gets distracted easily and will just keep popping off and on. He's still finicky under the blanket, but less so.

Anyway, I never thought I would be ok nursing in public and I was super nervous, but I actually felt really good about it. If I want to go anywhere at this point, I have no choice, he eats every 1 or 2 hours.
