Update to ambulance--breathing problems

Just wanted to give you ladies an update.  Went to the pediatrician today.  They think she probably aspirated and it might be because of reflux. We had supplemented with formula (she's only 5 lbs 4ounces) and they think it irritated her tummy.  They weren't overly concerned and said they'll only run tests if it happens again.

 Unfortunately she's now dehydrated and has lost 10.6% of  her birth weight so they want us to supplement again.  I'm BFing for 20 min every 2 hours and then supplementing with a bottle of either breast milk or formula.  Unfortunately my supply isn't totally in yet and even though I'm pumping we're running out of extra fast especially because they want us to feed her until she stops eating and she has a ferocious appetite.

We're going back in tomorrow for a weight check.  I'm nervous about giving her formula especially before bed tonight : (

    GL! Keep pumping and chug water! My DD1 was that size and did fine on BM so once your milk is in you should be good. Check out the BFing board for support, too!

    I don't know if this well help you. Deaglan was born at 9 lbs 1 oz. by the time we left the hospital he was down to 7 lbs 15 oz for total of 12% body weight loss. I would feed him every 2-3 hours and than DH would use a syringe and give him about 10 mls of formula. So far he's putting on weight. We are now 12 pp and he eats like a champ.

    Went back to the dr today and she was up to 5.9 from 5.4.  Phew!  Dr was happy with her progress.  Now I just have to focus on getting my milk supply up so I can ditch the formula.  Thanks for the encouragement!
