This was inspired by the fact that my son just walked down the hall, saw it was snowing and said, "I don't want to see the snow anymore" and walked down the hall and back to bed. LOL
Where do you live?
Why do you live there?
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not?
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
Re: GTKY: Where do you live?
We've considered moving to Atlanta before but truly we have all of our family here so I doubt we will ever leave. We basically have summer and spring. Never snows and never gets too cold.
I wish I had 2 houses. One down here for winter and one up north for summer. It gets SOOOO hot here and the humidity sucks. But I guess I can't really imagine myself living anywhere else, although it would be nice to get out from under certain family.
Where do you live? Southern CA
Why do you live there? my husband works in TV production. Hard to do somewhere else.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? We love the weather and we have a lot of friends here. But we wish our families were closer. We have considered moving to Arizona many times to be near my husbands family, but my husband hasn't found a job that works there yet.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? I don't know. I like the weather here a lot. There are also a lot of options for things to do, eat, etc. But it's very expensive and the traffic blows. I think every place has its good and bad qualities?
Why do you live there? I moved here when DH and I married- DH grew up nearby- he had a great job and owned his ownhome when we married- so it was a no brainer that I move here.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? I love our house and neighborhood- and I like that I can do a ton of stuff easily. I grew up in a small town of under 500 people.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? We have toyed with the idea of Tucson- but I love Virginia- my SIL lives there and I love to visit.
Where do you live? New Jersey
Why do you live there? I grew up here and all of our family is here.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? While I love living close to my family and I can't imagine only seeing them a few times a year, it would be nice to live somewhere...nicer. New Jersey, while not what you see on Jersey Shore, or Real Housewives, does have pollution and it gets super hot and super cold here. I feel like my thyroid is probably messed up because I live here. Lots of people have cancer here too. But I do like that there is a lot to do, and there are restaurants, museums, malls, etc. all within very short distances. And I can't beat the fact that if I need my family to help with the kids, etc. they are right here and willing.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? San Diego. Nice weather, great city. I bet it's expensive, but so is NJ and here I have to shovel snow haha
Why do you live there? I grew up here. We used to live in Orange County, but last yr we moved to a way bigger house in the IE.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? For in So Cal yes. I love our house. Our city is still new so there's not everything around me like I'm used to.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? Somewhere with seasons. We've talked about someday moving to Colorado. Who knows though, we'll probably be in California forever.
Why do you live there? I grew up here. I got a good job here then DH did and we just didn't leave. Most of our family lives here too.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? No, we want to experience somewhere else. I lived in Orlando with my mom for about 4 months but that was it.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? Somewhere in Europe, at least for a while. If in the US, a larger city in the mid-atlantic or north east. It's a bit hot here for me.
Let's just switch then...I'm tired of these damn seasons.
Where do you live? I live in Denmark
Why do you live there? We moved here last year for me to study, us to same up some cash/pay off some debt and to spend time with DH family who lives here.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? I was, but as you probably know, it did not work out at all.. I am so badly longing to move back to Norway next summer!
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? Torn between Washington DC- area and Norway. I do have a farm to inherit in Norway - but I do like the politics, culture and the climate in DC
- also no immediately family in the US.
Where do you live? I live in Louisville, KY
Why do you live there? This is where DH is from, I'm from Cincinnati. I've lived here since I graduated college in 2004.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? It's okay. I'd like to move back to Cincinnati, but I know that will never happen.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? Back in Cincy
I never realized that. I grew up in Glendale Heights
What high school will your boys attend? I went to Glenbard North (and Mands went to Glenbard South).
Why do you live there? My husband works in finance & technology, so this is the best place for him to be.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? I do like it here. I wasn't a huge fan of the San Francisco weather, but the weather here in the suburbs of San Fran is pretty awesome. It's insanely expensive though.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? I really enjoyed living in North Carolina. I would definitely move to Charlotte. I would also like San Diego I think. Of course being near family would be nice too, but that would require either moving back to New York or Chicago.
Lol lets do it :
I totally agree that seasons are overrated, especially when 90% of the year is taken up by two seasons (winter and summer). Everyone loves the fall and spring in theory, but usually there's only about a month of spring before it's disgustingly hot and a couple weeks of fall before it's freezing cold. Where I live now, there's no real winter, and I love it because instead of winter, we get several months of "fall like" weather.
I'd love months of fall like weather. Where I am it's hot nearly all year. Like today it's 84. It's annoying. I love the cooler weather much more than the hot weather.
San Diego, ca
Why do you live there?
I went to undergrad here and live it. My husband was a transplant here when we met..originally from Massachusetts. We have a lot of friends here. We moved to mn for a while but once dh finished law school, this is where he found a job.
Is that where you'd like to be?nbsp; Why or why not?
For now its great. I looooove the beach. And i really enjoy my friends here. If we end up better off financially we'd love to stay but it's pricey and we can't afford a house right now.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
On a farm on the coast of Maine.
Where do you live?
MA
Why do you live there?
because we grew up here, have jobs here, etc. We live in the specific city we do because it's affordable, but I hate it
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not?
Not in this specific city, but I like living in MA. I am hoping we can find a place in my hometown, which is only 30 miles away, but a whole world better than the craphole we currently reside in.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
is there a place that has the weather of New England's spring/summer/fall, but just skips winter all together? I'd like to live there. but seriously no hotter than a New England summer, I don't need to be sweating all the time.
Where do you live? Nor cal...humboldt county
Why do you live there?
I moved here almost 7 years ago for school, met my husband and we both have good jobs
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not?
No, we are looking to move. DH was born and raised here and I hate it. I want to have seasons and I hate the culture here.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
Somewhere that has seasons and where we can get good jobs. We are keeping our eyes open
DD 12.2010
Where do you live?
AZ
Why do you live there?
Born and raised here, all my family and most of my H's family lives here.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not?
It's all I've known and I can't imagine living far from my family. The summers are hot as hades, but we have access to a pool and AC is a must so they are fine to live through (even while hugely pregnant with my september baby).
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
When I was younger I wanted to live in another country so I could have the language immersion. Now I wouldn't mind living near a beautiful tropical beach provided my home came with a housekeeper that could keep on top of all the sand.
Where do you live? Just outside Chicago.
Why do you live there? I moved to Chicago after college and lived in the city for several years. H and I moved here the month I got pregnant with Ava; we bought his parents house because they moved into a condo in the city.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? I'm happy here. IL's are in the city, my parents are a couple hours south, and we have access to world-class museums, restaurants and entertainment anytime we feel like it. Later in life I'd like to be a snowbird (like, after our kids are in college) but still spend most of my time here.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? Taking family, friends and that sort of thing out of the equation, I've always really liked North Carolina. We have family there and I love the people, climate and nature there.
Where do you live? Rhode Island
Why do you live there? DH and I both grew up here and this is where our family is. After college we both ended up back here.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? Yes and no. I love that we are near our families but part of me has always just wanted to move somewhere totally different where we don't know anyone and just start over. DH and I have been talking about moving to New Hampshire in a few years.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? I would love to live in a warmer climate. Like Jilly, I am all done with snow. It will probably never happen but a girl can wish.
Where do you live?
Southern New England
Why do you live there?
Grew up here, family is here
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not?
Depends on the season, right about now I would love to be somewhere warm and sunny. However we have the seasons, the ocean and the mountains so it is a pretty place to live. Our local economy is in the tank though so it is hard to get good jobs...actually it is even hard to get crappy jobs.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
I'd have to say the San Diego area, visited many places but that is one I DH and both agree would be a hard opportunity to pass up. Lovely area.
Where do you live? West Michigan
Why do you live there? Born & raised, almost all family here, same for SO. I am not a snow fan but do love that we get the 4 seasons, have Lake Michigan in our backyard...seriously, if you've never seen it, it is an ocean, no lie, and has the best beaches...and just the ability to drive a couple hours and be in Detroit, or Canada, or "Up North". But mostly the family...
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? Well, I tried living away (Missouri) when I was in college, and found that I super missed my family (it's a big Polish Catholic nightmare! LOL) So, I guess this is where I'm most happy. I need my family, especially now that I have kids.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? I dunno, my 21 year old cousin just bought a one-way ticket to Hawaii and up & moved there, that sounds appealing! LOL But seriously, if I was independently wealthy and could afford to fly my family to me anytime I wanted to, I'd probably pick Arizona. Don't know why, I just like it. My BFF moved there 4 years ago, so I've been out there a couple times. SO's BFF lives there with his family, and he would jump at the chance to move there, if I'd do it...probably not gonna happen...
Where do you live?
Western Oregon
Why do you live there?
I grew up here, and most of my family lives here. DH and his family are from Minnesota, but they all moved out here when DH did.
I love it here, it's gorgeous. You're never more than an hour or so away from the beach, the desert, or the mountains and snow. I also love the way people here are so open minded.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not?
Yes and no. I love adventure and would like to try living somewhere else, even in another country.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
There are too many places, North Carolina? Southern Californa? Iceland? New Zealand? France? I can't decide. So I'll just say in a fishing village on the coast of Ireland somewhere, singing sea shanties til the day I die. lol
LOL! Funny kid you have there!
Where do you live? NJ
Why do you live there? This is where we were born & raised & MH is like NJ's #1 fan & will never leave, lol. (I tried to convince him we should move to CA once we graduated college & he wasn't having it)
Is that where you'd like to be? Now that we have kids, yes.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live?
Well other than CA, lol...I would like to be further south in NJ b/c it would be closer to family, and I am also not digging the area we are in now. We moved here for proximity to our jobs, but since I WFH now, my location isn't a factor anymore.
Where do you live? Orlando
Why do you live there? Move here in high school and never left. LOL
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? Eh, maybe. There are a lot of things I like here: the weather, all the fun places to go and do things, how dog-friendly and child-friendly it is here and having a good job here. But the economy is not so great, the schools and access to educational resources are not good and most of our family and friends live elsewhere. I also don't like the traffic and the lack of a unifying vision for the region.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? I guess it depends on what the criteria is. Realistically, we might consider the DFW area because there's a good chance I could get a decent job there, and we have a lot of family and friends' support. If we're talking fantasy here, I would like to work remotely full-time, so I could live somewhere remote like the mountains or the Keys or maybe live in a cool but less economically prosperous city, like Mobile or St. Petersburg. For now, though, we're stuck here because I need my job and we'll never sell our condo.
A couple years after my DH and I got married, we decided we wanted a change. He works in the tech sector and could get a job anywhere. We decided to have him interview in Seattle, Portland and Raleigh, NC. All places we found beautiful and liked the culture. He was moments away from accepting the job offer in Raleigh when the company in Oregon made a last ditch effort to get him. And, so, here we are. LolIs that where you'd like to be? Why or why not?Yes and no. I love it here and will probably always come back but I also love moving around and experiencing new places. Do you remember the movie "Chocolat"? My DH jokes that the clever north wind calls to me every so often. It's true.On the other hand, I don't want to be constantly uprooting DS so I think we'll be here for a long time. It's something I struggle with, honestly. I thought for sure we'd have lived in another country by now. If you could live anywhere, where would you live?Italy or Germany. I'd also love to live in New York for a year and Hawaii for a year.
Where do you live?
We live in Northern CA - less than a few miles away from the prison that Johnny Cash sings about
Why do you live there? DH and I both grew up in the next town over. We both went away for school/military and lived in SoCal for a while as newlyweds, but we knew we could afford a house here and wanted to be close to our families when we had kids. It's worked out rather well - both sets of grandparents do lots of free babysitting for us!
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? I enjoy being close to our families. The free daycare and babysitting is awesome. I love that my boys will be so close to their grandparents. We have a lot of good friends near by that we've known for 10-20 years. But I don't think there is anything super special about the actual location that is holding us here. Nor Cal summers suck.
If you could live anywhere, where would you live? I would live in SoCal, near the beach. In my dream world we would live in DH's grandma's house. She lives in an old church renovated into a house and apartments that she rents out that is 2 blocks from the ocean. We go there every summer for family vacation and we lived in one of her apartments for a few years. It's my happy place!
Where do you live? Central Ohio
Why do you live there? We moved here when my then H got into grad school at OSU.
Is that where you'd like to be? Why or why not? I love my job here, but I really pretty much have no one, so I'll be looking for jobs in NW Ohio (all family and friends) for next school year.
