MoMs who had Cesareans

Have any of you done any kind of scar therapy to try to reduce the thickness and/or colouration of your scars? I didn't have a CS, but the scar from having my ovary removed back in September is a very deep red/brown, and it runs from my belly button down to my pelvis - I know that most people don't have classicals and wouldn't have this same cut from their CS, but it's still the same region of the body, and I assume it heals similarly for a lot of people.

I contemplated picking up Mederma or something similar, but I don't want to waste money on a cream if isn't likely to actually help. I don't mind the stretch marks all over, but this big zipper seam I have makes me feel like a damned Build-a-Bear.

Re: MoMs who had Cesareans

  • I had a c/s with DD. It was red for a while, but now it's a light pink/white. The center of it is still a little darker, but not by a lot. I haven't done anything to it, though, it's just faded over time (2 years).

  • I've used vitamin e capsules for scars in the past. You cut them in half and rub the liquid in twice a day. It helped for the scars to fad faster.

  • Mine has faded over time.  I don't mind it though.  I earned that scar!
  • I am using some leftover Kelo-cote spray from when I had some moles removed... my dermatologist told me it is the same stuff plastic surgeons recommend.  FWIW, you could try medical grade silicon sheets... they worked amazingly well on my dad's wrist after his surgery and double compound fracture.  I never had much luck with Mederma.

  • I have several surgical scars that I was trying to downplay - one is very obvious along my upper arm. I tried Mederma and something else I can't remember that was over the counter. They didn't help at all. I ended up getting some silicone... it was this sticky sheet thing. My mother is a burn nurse and I got it from a plastic surgeon she works with. It was a big sheet that I cut down to the right size. It helped with the color but from what I've been told the size is going to stay the same. It's scar tissue that has built up.

That's totally what I used and really helped. You have to go through an MD though to get them

  • Thank you guys! I'll look around and see if I can find an online medical supply vendor who will sell me the silicone sheets. This thing looks like I've got a centipede embedded in my skin.

  • I have used ScarAway Silicon scar sheets.  You can get them at walgreens or walmart.  They work great and have decreased the keloid that was forming on my c-section scar.  You can barely see parts of my scar now.
  • I have two thick scars on my belly from surgeries when I was 12. I used mederma on them, but I don't think it did anything special. They've faded significantly over time on their own. Maybe see a dermatologist for an opinion?

    P.S. LOVE the siggy pic.

  • Both my pregnancies were csection they used the same spot and you can't see my scar at all. Well there are dips in it but no scar left and my trio is almost 15 months now I never used anything on mine it will fad over time.
