recommend a vacuum please

Mine is broken and super heavy so I am in the market for a new upright. I realize Dyson is the best but its $$$. I dont have pets so nothing too fancy is needed but I would like:

-attachments

-needs to work on barefloors and carpet

-light weight

-longer cord

I've always had a bagged but am willing to go bagless if its better...

Please help there are so many out there!

Re: recommend a vacuum please

  • I love my bagless. It has a button the side of the canister that pops the bottom open and dumps everything out without you having to touch anything. It's just a Walmart Dirt Devil, the attachments are kinda lame though because it has this "power brush" that is supposed to be great on upholstery and it doesn't do crap.

A word on the dyson, my sister who has worked in the carpeting industry for 8 years says that a lot of carpet companies wont honor their warranty if you use a dyson. Apparently it sucks the twist out of the fibers or some technical term she used. Which only matters if your carpet has a warranty anyways.

  • I have 2 vacuums.

I have had an Oreck for a couple of years and while I loved it when I first got it, I am in deeper love with my newest vacuum.

It's the Shark Bagless for Pet Hair. I can't believe how dirty my carpet was even in rooms we are never in. It has lots of attachments. It detaches and can be put on a different base that rolls around with you to use just the hose to get high up cob webs, vacuum stairs, and what not. Its even has an attachment that you can use on tile and wood, which I love.

We got it at Bed, Bath and Beyond. It is a $250 vacuum and if you sign up online or get the 20% off coupons in the mail, you can use it on that. I spent $200 w/ that 20% off coupon.

  • I love my Shark Naviagtor Lift Away. It is bagless and comes with a few attachments. The main part lifts away so you can easily vacuum the stairs. It's light weight and I was able to use it towards the end of my pregnancy and as I was recovering from my c section. It has functions both carpets and bare floors. It picks up everything and makes me kinda enjoy cleaning.

  • We have a Hoover Platinum Cyclonic Bagless. It is AWESOME. Super easy to empty, great a picking up pet hair (we have two dogs and a cat) and has a couple attachments.

I Love that it has a feature that tells you on the head when the spot you are covering is dirty/clean.

  • Shark! Love it.

I actually got mine at Costco for a great deal a couple years ago and now they have the newer models. Plus, like PP said, you can get whichever model you want at BBB with a coupon.

Thank you! I was wondering if this was as good as it claimed against pet hair. Our dog sheds horribly for a short hair dog. She doesn't even really have an under coat and her hair is every where! Adding this to my tax refund purchases.

  • I just bought the Shark Navigator Lift Away Professional from Bed Bath and Beyond.  I'm very happy with it.  It was $199, but I used a 20% off coupon, so that brought it down to around $160.

It has a lot of attachments and has awesome suction.  I recommend it.

  • ended up buying and Oreck based on my mom and grandma's recs.  They are at costco for $300 and comes with a canister for cars/stairs...

     Hope it works well!

  • I have a bag less Bissell and LOVE it!
