Detaching Placenta

My sister is about 16-17 weeks along, and her placenta is detaching.  She also has a hematoma that is very close to where it is detaching.  There is still a heartbeat, but very little amniotic fluid.  The doctors keep saying there is nothing they can do right now.  I just can't believe that is true.  Has anyone had any experience with this issue?  Is there something that can be done?

Re: Detaching Placenta

  • The only thing I have experience with is a pre-mature rupture at 19 weeks and a full previa that did end up tearing. It didn't completely start to detach though. I was put on complete bed rest and fortunately everything resolved itself. All I can say is that my heart truly goes out to her and I'm crying for her right now because I know exactly how she feels. When I had the premature rupture they told me the same thing, sent me home to wait, and I thought I was going to wait for her heart to stop. There was a 1% chance of it sealing back and it did, but it was a miracle. I prayed, prayed, and prayed some more. I tried to keep a positive attitude and spent as much time talking to her and rubbing my belly as possible. We were very lucky. I will pray for her, that LO, and your family.
