Hey all. I normally am super active pre pregnancy. Now I am exhausted like most of us and have been only doing prenatal workouts at home usually 30 to 45 minutes per day. All of these are pilates, bar method, and more strengthening. I can't seem to find more cardio based prenatal workouts. I have been nervous to go to my regular gym but decided to try the treadmill today. I used to jog all the time. After less than ten minutes at 3.0 I felt really sick and winded and stopped. I dont get it. Has anyone else had something similar or does anyone have any thoughts? I hate to think I can't do even really light cardio during pregnancy.
Re: treadmill made me sick
I was really active prepregnancy too. And I was like you a couple weeks ago. I just couldn't finish a workout without nearly passing out or puking. I just took that as my body telling me to stop for a little bit.
I'm just getting back into working out and I feel pretty good. I've been going back to pilates and next week I'll be rejoining my bootcamp class.
Just listen to you body. Its perfectly fine to do nothing for a couple weeks. When you're ready you'll know.
I hate treadmills and don't run on them. I have found when I run outside I don't get sick but I do get tired and winded so much more quickly than I used to. I used to run around 30 miles per week before pregnancy and I can only handle about 10-15 now. I am hoping I get more energy in 2nd tri.
I did try to use the elliptical a couple of times during pregnancy as it is my go-to workout when I am injured and I got nauseous after about 25 minutes. I wonder if it has something to do with stationary, upa nd down motion inside without fresh air?
I am very active in my gym and I noticed when I do HAVE to run on the treadmill, it's a lot harder. I almost feel lightheaded vs. running outside (which is much better for me!) Also, in my first 7-8 weeks, it was SO hard to get to the gym to workout, let alone do cardio. Like a lot of the other women who posted here, I would listen to your body and take it down a notch if you are feeling sick, dizzy, etc.
I am training for a half marathon and I have noticed now that I'm further along I can run better and workout without getting as winded and still have some energy. I think the first 10-12 minutes of cardio are the hardest until I get into a rhythm. Keep hydrated with a sports drink to keep the level of potassium, salt and carbs steady and drink more often than you normally would. I bought squeezable organic applesauce to eat while I'm doing longer runs to have a quick carb load.
Good luck and I hope it gets easier for you!
I have the same problem. Pre-pregnancy I was very active running and kick boxing several times a week. Now I can barely get up two flights of stairs without breathing heavy. Treadmill-forget it. I've found riding a bike has been ok. The bikes at my gym also have a fan on them so it keeps me cool as I bike (I puke when I get hot).
