Natural Birth

Birth Photography/ Video

I have so much respect for the hypno moms that can keep it together in front of the camera. We had a natural birth with our first and I can't imagine if my husband was concerned with a camera during labor. The experience was so calm, and I was so focused. It was so amazing, I really wish I had a video. I think we are going to keep it just the two of us in the delivery room again for the second, which I' guessing means no video. Has anyone made a video or hired a birth photographer for your natural birth? Did you feel distracted? Do you think it is worth having the video?

  • We had a photographer at DS2's birth. We made sure we were comfortable with her and her style with an in-home maternity shoot well before the birth. We saw that her style was very much that of a silent observer. I actually didn't reailze when she had arrived at my birth because I was so in my zone and she was so unobstrusive.

  • my SIL (my inspiration for natural birth) had this gorgeous slideshow from giving birth! She said the photog did not intrude, and she forgot she was there most of the time.

I'm having my Mom bring in her super nice camera to do the same for me.

  • Before you plan too much, double check on the birthing facility's policies.  Some won't allow video in delivery rooms.  I saw that in my hospital's info packet.  I assume for liability reasons.
