  This is not always the case, but *usually* swaddling blankets are bigger (and thus better/easier for swaddling).

  Usually swaddlers are bigger and square where as receiving blankets are rectangular and smaller

  Swaddling blankets tend to be a bit stretchy too (in comparison to cotton, often flannel, receiving blankets).

  I used both types for swaddling and never really noticed much of a difference. I prefer swaddling with the blankets without velcro. I was not a fan of those.
