Has anyone tried gradually going down on the amount of formula they feed their LO at night? When do you start this?
LO is at least 16 pounds and gaining weight fine and he is 5 months ... he still gets up once a night and I still feed him. He only takes 20 minutes and we are both back to bed quietly sleeping but when are they ready to stop feeding at night and when do know if they are genuinely hungry or if it is just a habit.
LO doesn't care for pacifier - he would rather suck on his hands so it's not like I can go in and offer and pacifier and see if that helps him go back to sleep. Any advice?
Re: When to stop feeding MOTN?
I think if he is consuming a few ounces, he is hungry. I wouldn't push him to give up that feeding.
Also, I would love to be getting up only once a night.
It happens naturally. My DD phased out her feeds overnight and early morning by a year. I didn't even try sleep training until then too. Babies just eat more often. If your getting a good stretch before and after the feed then your doing well. I know my newborn is still waking up twice a night for feeds. I know that eventually he'll drop one and then the other. It's only a concern when they are toddlers if they are still wanting food in the MOTN.
I know you weren't. I am just jealous and can't keep it to myself.
DS1 didn't start STTN until 9-10 months or so. He one day just stopped waking up to eat. I didn't have to do anything to prompt him to stop waking up.
DD2 is no where near there yet. She still gets up a few times a night. As pp mentioned, that's just what happens when you have a baby. I just cherish the cuddle time - she won't be a baby for long.
