We started doing tummy time while he was laying on us at 1 week. Our pediatrician said we should start doing 5-10 minute sessions a few times a day at our two week appointment.
Right away. He has tummy time on us every day and after about 10 days we started putting him on his tummy on the Boppy for about 5 mins at a time. he actually seems to enjoy it. His brother hated tummy time with the passion of a thousand fiery suns.
LOL
OP, I'm glad you posted this. I still have an inside baby, but I was wondering the same thing yesterday... haha
Our doc said as soon as the cord falls off, which was 3weeks for us. My problem is remembering to do it. I always remember right after he has eaten...that won't work.
We started it as soon as both of their cords fell off. We do it before each feeding during the day and they seem to like it. We wake them up about 30 minutes before each feeding and do about 10 to 15 minutes of tummy time either on us or propped on a boppy. This is our way to keep them happy while we change the other one.
They get about 3 to 4 tummy times (10 to 15 minutes) each day on the boppy/floor mat and several other times on us. They love to be able to look around and have gotten really good at supporting their heads and they are only 19 days old. I also think they really like the "freedom". They have even started scooting and finding their legs.
I recommend starting as soon as the cords fall off even if it's just a couple of times of day!
