Just wondering how you can tell the difference between BH, contractions, and the babies just moving and pushing around. I'm 25 weeks and just trying to figure out when I should be worried if my belly is getting hard. I have days where it seems hard all day, other days where it is just one in a while, and sometimes just parts of my belly seem hard. I know pain is a key in really contractions, but there are so many unusual aches and pains that I have now and then that I don't know how to distinguish which to worry about. I had an ultrasound Friday and everything looked good, no shortening of cervix or anything, but I still worry when my stomach gets hard.
Re: How do you know the difference?
Does your entire belly get hard? Or just like, the sides where the babies are? If your entire belly gets hard, those are contractions (BH or otherwise). If it's only hard where the babies are, it's probably just them. For example, Baby A is on my left and Baby B is on my right and slightly tilted. If the area above my belly button is soft, I know it's not a contraction. If it's also hard, it's a contraction. Also, not all contractions are painful. Try to keep track of their timing - are they in regular intervals, how many per hour, how long do they last? Most doctors give you a guideline as to when to call in (some say more than 4/hr, some say 6+/hr, some say more than every 10 minutes). I also find that the first half hour after a meal is a baby movement free for all - my belly will be hard, but it's just them going bonkers. You may find something like that with exercise or after sex. HTH!
