One great sleeper, one not...

This past week we transitioned the boys into their cribs, from the RnP's.  Dylan did great from the first night - waking a few extra times, but by last night he's fully sleeping his normal in the crib - even sleeping a little longer in it.  Ryan, on the other hand, wants no part of it.  His longest stretch of sleep in his crib has been 2 hours.  We usually give up around 11 pm and put him back in the RnP so that we can all get some sleep.  Anyone else have one baby not transition well and if so did that baby eventually transition?  We still have him try every night so that he's somewhat use to it.  As soon as he starts rolling over he won't have the RnP option and will have to be in his crib.  I'm guessing when that day comes, Ryan, DH and I will have some even longer nights.  Thanks for listening.

Re: One great sleeper, one not...

  • Yup totally us. We bought the magic sleep suits first and then transitioned them bc they still needed swaddled but if not in the rnp they would break free of the swaddle. My son did great, just as you described your one.  My daughter not so much, at all. Like up every hour where by 2 am she would end up back in the rnp.  We transitioned at 4.5 mo and by then my daughter was rolling over.  After she fell asleep a couple times on the floor on her belly we figured out she is a belly sleeper. Scared me the first few nights even w her sleeping next to the bed in a co sleeper, but in the end I knew she could lift her head high and roll herself over. The magic sleep suit was great for our son, maybe yours would benefit from it?

  • You might also ask your pedi about reflux, which can be a cause of babies not sleeping well on their backs the first couple months.

  • I could have written this post. One of my girls is an awesome sleeper, transitioned to the crib no problem, I can lay her down wide awake unswaddled with a pacifier and she will go to sleep.  My other baby can be sound asleep and the second you lay her in the crib she starts screaming.  She ends up back in the RNP every night and we have been doing this for about 3 weeks.  I put her in the crib during the day and she will look in her mirror and lay there for about 10 mins and then she is done.  She will only nap in the swing.  If you find a magic answer please let me know!

Tomorrow the boys have there four month appointment and shots. last time they slept the entire day after the shots. I'm hoping he will be tired enough to do it tomorrow and then there after. A mommy can dream right.
