Beginning Total Elimination Diet

So, we thought cutting out soy (in addition to having already cut out dairy) was the culprit for DS. At 1 point post-soy, DS's diaper tested negative for blood at the pediatric GI. But, fast forward to a week later, and DS was super fussy/obviously uncomfortable and he had a poop with visible blood in it (something he never had before) and tons of mucus. I rechecked everything I had eaten lately to make sure it had no soy protein or dairy. So, guess we're back to square one. I am tired of the doctor's not saying/doing much about it, and I am so sad with seeing DS uncomfortable most days, if not in a lot of pain. So I am starting a total elimination diet, and just calling the doctors and telling them that this is what I'm doing.

Any tips/advice/words of encouragement for starting the diet? My concern is that I'm already a small person, so I don't want/need to lose weight. My other concern is my supply tanking.

Re: Beginning Total Elimination Diet

  • Just wanted to cheer you on! I didn't do a total elimination diet but I cut out soy/nuts/eggs/fish for 3-4 months and then added them back in (one every two weeks) and stayed off dairy for 9 months for my LO. It was difficult but I found it handy to just get into routines like rice milk and cereal for breakfast, Amy's frozen meals/soup for lunch and then a lot of mexican/pasta/meat and veggies for dinner. Many wonderful wishes to you! You can do it! It's okay to try it and realize it isn't working for you and your family. I don't think it would work for me another round if i were to discover food issues with my 4 month old.

  • I recommend cutting out soy, dairy, corn and gluten. Drink plenty of green smoothies! Remember it may take up to two weeks to see a difference. Keep us updated. Good luck!

  • I did a total elimination diet with DD1 and it never affected my supply. I dropped weight, but it tapered off. She was dairy, soy, gluten, egg and we avoid gmo's.
