spit up and crying

Starting last night W ha been spitting up a lot. Like at least twice per feeding and then other random times as well. I think his diaper output has been normal, but just started keeping track tonight to be sure. He's spit up before, once or twice a day, but this just seems excessive. Plus last night and tonight I've had to put him to bed crying because absolutely nothing will calm him. I've done our normal bedtime routine: nurse, diaper, swaddle, nurse, bed. But both nights he's woken back up after the second nursing and been crying uncontrollably and nothing helps! Right now he seems to finally be out after 20 min of crying while I rock him in the rnp.
Sorry for the long post. This is just so far outside the norm for us that I'm really starting to worry. Any one have any thoughts or ideas? Or similar experience? Misery loves company. Frowny face.

Re: spit up and crying

  • D tends to spit up more when he is really gassy.  He also eats more often, seems like the gas takes up valuable belly space.

Maybe something you ate? A would get so gassy and would scream and cry sometimes - I realized it was after I ate chocolate.

Maybe, but I tend to get in food ruts and eat the same thing over and over.  The only thing different today was a nutella milkshake, but that wouldn't explain yesterday's issue...

I figured out after two days of bad gas that it was the new position I was feeding D in. We were doing side laying and apparently he was not getting a full latch, so half of the milk was leaking onto the bed and he was sucking in air.

I hate when they cry and you can't figure out why. It makes me feel so horrible and guilty.  I hope your LO calms down soon.

  • Any chance he could be starting to teethe?  The additional drool that occurs when teething can cause babies to spit up.

Could be more teeth, this guy already has one!  I wish I could catch a picture of it, but I'm just not fast enough.  Freaky child sprouting teeth already...
