Dumb question....

Do you go straight up to L&D or do you go through the ER first? I just had an "argument" with someone on this topic.

Re: Dumb question....

  • When I went in for my gall bladder troubles on Christmas Eve, they sent me straight to L&D. I was not admitted the the ER, even though I had 0 signs of labor. I think once you get to a certain point, they want you hooked up to fetal monitoring systems ASAP, and skip the nonsense that is the ER.

  • My hospital checks you in at the er entrance but takes you straight to labor and delivery.
  • At my hospital you can go through the main entrance before 9pm after that you have to go through the ER because the main doors are locked

  • My water broke around 1230 AM so i had to go through the ER since all the other doors were locked. They took me to LD from there.

  • This might depend on your hospital and what time you check in. We were told to go to ER first, so we drove over, got out of the car, walked up to the door and found a sign that said the door was closed and to go around to another door. So we went over to the L&D door and they let us right in. I was rather annoyed.

I recommend calling the hospital and letting them know you're on your way.

  • At my hospital, you go to L&D directly if you're past 20 weeks.
