Insurance and Breast Pump

So, I looked into it and my insurance will cover my breast pump if it is purchased through a Physician, Hospital, or Durable Medical Equipment company.
Has anyone else done this? I would like one of the Medela double pumps (I know there are a few options) and didn't know if anyone has purchased one through this process. Anyone know if Baylor Grapevine sells them?
I'm in Keller/North Fort Worth area, so the closer the better, but I'll drive if I have to.

Thanks!

Re: Insurance and Breast Pump

  • Most of the hospitals sell them, usually through the gift shop or similar.  You could call the hospital's lactation consultant who should be able to point you in the right direction.

  • I looked into getting one through my insurnce and they told me it would only be covered if I were separated from the baby in the hospital for some reason. They did say that will change with Obamacare but that isn't mandated until 2014. My friend, however different insurance was able to get one through her insurance at the hospital a few years ago. It doesn't hurt to call and ask.
  • My insurance covered mine but it had to come from one of their three suppliers. I got a double electric but it wasn't the medela I rented from the hospital in the interim. It was worth saving the $200 for me.
