one thing after another...UPDATE

While I am thrilled/blessed/excited to be having twins, right now I just want to break down and cry.

Some of you have been amazing at responding to my posts and keeping my head up through these extended periods of cramping that I have been having due to my uterus stretching and my SCH. But good God I cant take another thing!!

I started spotting last night and was/am still cramping. I figured it was the SCH finally breaking down but on my docs advice, I went to the ER down where I live (He is 1.5 hours away from me and felt that this was the best choice since it was a Locums doc on call anyways). The babies look AMAZING. I jokingly said they look like baby t-rexs with their little nubby arms wiggling around. BUT one big thing that was noticed was my BP was running very high. I have an at home monitor and was noticing high patterns but prayed that it was me using the thing wrong (yes, I was in denial big time) but it was confirmed along with a bit of protein being spilled. So darn early for high BP but the ER doc as well as the OB on call said that they've seen it before. I will be calling my doc on Monday to see what the game plan is and if he wants to put me on medication to help control it.

Has anyone ever gone through this? This was a huge thing we were praying wouldnt happen but deep down and with my health history I kind of knew it would.

Thanks ladies, you have all be great in making me feel less crazy throughout this so far. I feel like a FTM all over again Tongue Tied

UPDATE:

I called my docs office this morning and of course he was out (as he is the mondays before his on call weekend) but I was able to chat with another doc that feels this merits a visit this week. Well when a nurse calls you back and makes it sound so urgent to get in a person might be a little on edge! 11:30 tomorrow is my appointment. I am hoping for solid answers and an action plan. UGH

Re: one thing after another...UPDATE

  • I'm on BP medication as of about 18w. My BP was typically around 140/100 and its now back to a normal range. I didn't have this issue with dd, but I'm four years older and carrying twins, so I'm trying to give myself a break.

At least there is something that can be done and if its under control you and your babies aren't in harms way. GL, I know it's hard.

I could just hug you right now. My bp has been raning from 139/95 to 150/102. May I ask what med you are on?

I'm on 400 mg/day of labetalol (200 in am and 200 in pm).  It has helped tremendously.  I actually feel better since taking it, I used to feel like my heart was going to beat out of my chest all the time, so it's helped with that.  The doctor told me I'd stay on if for a bit after delivery too  (I'm guessing 6 weeks or so) to make sure everything has evened out before dropping it.

I also had an SCH and bled off an on for weeks.  It ended up resolving itself and was gone by around 13w.  Every time I bled I was terrified even though I knew what was causing it.

I'm just waiting for a GD diagnosis too, it seems like I'm getting all kinds of issues that I didn't have last time.  Oh well, it will be so worth it in the end!

  • I was hospitalized at 23 weeks because Baby A had mysteriously lost most of her fluid. At 24 weeks my bp was elevated and there was protein. I was on 800mg of labetalol from then till I delivered at 30 weeks. I was told by the doctors that it was the only bp medicine safe during pregnancy.

  • My BP was high starting late 1st Tri/early 2nd Tri (had always been low/normal prior to pregnancy).  MFM found out it was due to hyperthryoid.  I've been on 300mg Labetalol and BP has been normal ever since.  My last 24hr urine catch at 28wks did show protein, but since I've had no other symptoms they aren't concerned.  I'm currently 34w3d and things have gone well.  Don't get too discourage about the BP.  Hopefully meds will keep it under control.  Best of luck to you.
