September 2011 Moms

what size?

I felt the same way last summer, should I order 6-12 or 12-18 month clothing! My mom went all out on the gap sale for Owen..she bought him bathing suits, rash guards, t shirts and shorts (lucky guy!)...all size 2T. I'm afraid they won't fit until September and he doesn't have other spring / summer clothes yet to get him through. I really want him to get wear out of the adorable stuff she got him. What size are you purchasing for this summer? should I exchange the clothes and get him 18-24 if 2T is huge on him now? Gap runs pretty true to size, imo...

Re: what size?

  • K will be wearing all his summer stuff from last year because he hasn't grown any. With the rash guard, I like it a little bigger, because it seems to fit tight in the correct size. Is he in 18 months now? I would probably exchange it for 18 month stuff if a 2 was huge.

yes he is in 18-24 month now. I agree about the rash guard..ill keep them in 2T.

  • K is in 12 to 18m now but some stuff is starting to be too small so we'll start putting her in some 18 to 24m. I'm guessing she will still be in it at least the beginning of summer. Maybe some 2T. Some of the more form fitting shirts I think will be fine in 2T all summer. I'm due in july and got her Big Sister shirt in 2T but it looks like it is form fitting. I also feel like she can get away with bigger shirts. She's thin so bigger pants fall down.

  • I know every brand is different but I find Gap on the small side. Old Navy seems pretty true to size for us, and Carter's is pretty close also. C is just starting to outgrow 12 to 18 and will soon be fitting into 18 to 24 or 2T.

  • L has mostly 18 and 24m stuff for summer.  She's in 18m now, but I think 18m shorts/pants will still fit her all summer.  She will probably be in 24m shirts by the end of summer though.

  • B is in 12-18 month stuff now. Mostly 18m. I bought her some 24m stuff last year that I'm hoping will fit. I'm pretty sure the shirts will.

  • I must really have a peanut.  He is still barely in 12m pants really only for the length and he has a dapper snapper to help keep them up.  Shirts he's in 12-18m, but there are still some that he fits in 9m.  Now, you said gap and he doesn't really have any gap stuff. So I'm not really answering your question about the gap stuff.

  • Max has actually lost some weight. My MIL got him all this 2T stuff that is giant on him. Hopefully he'll be able to wear it this fall. I imagine I'll be getting 18-24 month stuff for the summer.
  • Holla hoot!

I pretty much only shop at the GAP and Nordstrom. I know the outlets have different sizing (check the tag, are there dots? if you see 3 dots the item was made specifically for the outlet. If not, the item was once in a GAP store!) so I am not sure how the outlet sizing compares to the actual GAP store.

That said the Gap (not outlet) runs small for us. I just bought Bo some 18-24 month clothes and some 24 months or 2T. Sweaters and jackets can be bought bigger because they will shrink... jammies are better to go big, and same with shorts and jeans. I buy swim suits true to Bo's size or on the smaller side; if I will be swimming with him, I like to have a good hold on him!

I think you will be safe to keep your items! You can dry them no problem or layer the shirts if they are too big.

I am excited for O!! I love a baby shopping trip!

  • J is still in 12 month pants, but is in 18-24 month shirts. He has short little legs and a long torso. My mom got him a 2T rash guard and trunks which I think will be fine. His issue with pants is length, not waist.

  • ThankS guys...sounds like I'll keep the 2t. Now that I think about it, I guess gap doesn't run large for us considering Owen has been in 18-24 since he was 15 months!  He is in the 95% for height and the shorts all have adjustable waists so I guess the 2t will be just fine...Thanks for the outlet tip, Becca! I never knew that. These goodies were from the gap store:) my favorite too!!

    Cant wait for spring!!!

  • If in doubt, I always err on the big side, especially for boys - easier to wear them baggy then too tight!

That said, we just moved Halle into 18-24 month tops for the length, but she is swimming in them width wise.  She still wears 9-12 month bottoms - although the pants are all capris now.

  • I have a mix of 24 months and 2T.  She's wearing 18 months now but is a 2 in some shirts especially GAP.
  • Gap does both 24 months and 2t, but I haven't noticed a difference between the two.  B has some 18-24 month stuff from Gap that she's outgrown, some that still fits, and some 2t stuff that is already too small.
