I need some honest opinions here. This summer we are going to my brother's wedding in Texas, and it will be our first vacation as a 5-some. My oldest will be turning 3, the twins will be 14 months.
If we flew, it's a 2.5 hour flight. We would have to rent a car when we got there, juggle 3 kids, luggage, 3 car seats, a double stroller, etc, through security and baggage and all that.
If we drove, it's a 15-hour drive by Google Maps standards. We would have to do it in 2 days, lots of stops, lots of antsy kids in the back seat. We have a built in DVD player, but the twins will still be rear facing, so that does them no good.
My original thought was to drive b/c I'm afraid of dealing with all the airport hassle. But is that really the best option?
Anyone who has traveled with twins plus 1, please please tell me your thoughts! Thank you!!
Re: Traveling with 3 LOs, fly or drive?
And flying would be the only way id do it with help!
Mine are 4, 2 and 2. I would absolutely fly. We regularly drive to Texas, where I am from. It's typically a 6.5 hour drive without children and it still takes us between 8 and 9 hours to get there with the two or three stops we have to make for our oldest to go to the bathroom.
Fly, without question. That will become a three day trip at minimum. We drive from Jackson, MS.
I don't have my twins yet, but having traveled both flying and long road trips with DD, FLY!

If you do end up driving, I would buy a portable DVD player for the twins. I have driven for four 16hour days straight with ONE 2yo and it was manageable with that.
Good luck! We are going to a wedding in June with 1yo twins, and my 8 and 11yo. I might pack some wine ;
I would fly as well. With some preparation, you can do it!
How I would do it depends on whether you would be buying seats for the twins.
In any event, use backpacks so you don't have other bags flopping around and you have two hands free. Call in a favor from a friend (or two) to help you get to the airport and get checked in. Rent car seats if possible.
Call on family to have supplies ready for you so you don't have to pack them -- diapers, wipes, snacks etc. I'd even send the clothes we are wearing to the wedding beforehand so I don't have to worry about packing those. Get someone to meet you at the airport to help with the car rental process, luggage etc. Major props for taking three kids to the wedding. There has to be someone who can help out on that end.
For your three year old, think about a portable DVD player for the plane. It has made the world of difference for us.
