We just got the Ergo Performance. LO is only 6 weeks and 12 lbs. I was wondering when can I start using it without the infant insert? I do not have the insert but we also are not going to use it until he is the right age/size. TIA

The purpose of the insert is to fill out the carrier so that LO won't slump - a receiving blanket can be used to achieve the same effect. At 12 pounds you are close to being able to use a blanket as a "booster seat" under baby's bum. Baby sits on the folded blanket which allows his legs to swing at the knee (you don't want him in the bottom of the carrier because he isn't big enough and it will overspread his legs). This will also boost him up to the right height (don't want the top of the carrier to come higher than the mid-line of his ear). You can probably also wear him without anything with his legs froggied in - although by 6 weeks many babies are already starting to push off their feet which makes froggy legs a bad idea. If you do try legs in froggy style, make sure his weight is on his bum and not his feet.
