Milk coming in?

I had LO on the 11th. Yesterday I started to notice some white milk in the corner of his mouth during a few feedings. However, it still doesn't seem I have a full supply really. When your milk comes in can it be a little slow going, or does it all come in at once? We have been nursing a lot - I don't know if that's a factor.

TIA!

Re: Milk coming in?

  • With my daughter I noticed when my milk came in because my boobs were boulders, only other time they were like that is when she was weaning. Your milk should be in by now on average it takes about three days, so I'm sure you've got a good supply.

  • Your supply will continue to increase as LO demands more. LO won't jump from a few milliliters of colostrum to 3oz of milk / feeding in one day, and while some women have overproduction at first, others (raises hand) have a slower build-up. I can monitor my supply pretty closely because I'm pumping, and that was my experience both with DDs 1 and 2 - a gradual build-up of supply (followed by a crash with DD1, unfortunately).

  • Thats how mine started too. By the next day or so I was a little engorged and new for sure that my milk was fully in.

  • Mine was a gradual turn from yellow to white. So it sounds like yours is on its way.
  • Both times I knew as I was engorged with in a few days. Be happy it is on the slower side as it can be painful.
