Well, my LO is on his fourth separate illness since Christmas (hacking cough, respiratory illness, ear infection, and now a stomach virus). It breaks my heart every time (as I'm sure it does all of us when our LOs are sick).
I am not looking to leave our pediatrician and any medications she recommends/prescribes, but I am beginning to wonder if there are holistic ways to improve my LOs immunity or help him through future illnesses (in addition to medication).
Anyone out there use chiropracty or healing oils or other alternative therapies for their LOs, either to improve immunity or treat illness?
If so, what do you recommend...and what questions do you recommend asking of a potential practicioner before receiving services? I'm not set on anything, I just want to be open to the healing practices that are out there, as I watch him struggle. Thanks!
Re: Improving Baby's Immunity/Alternative medicine?
I could have written this myself! My son had had literally every virus that has been passed around at daycare. The only thing my pediatrician approved was Culterelle daily probiotics. They insist he is getting enough Vit D in his formula, and that he's too young to have other vitamins and herbs ( Vit C and Echinacea.)
I BF him until he was about eight months old, and I can't help but wonder if switching to formula has been somewhat of a trigger. He did however get one ear infection though in early December while I was still BF...so who knows...?
My Mom has mentioned that her chiropractor insists that aligning the infants spine works wonders, but I still have a lot of reserach to do about this before I take my soon to be ten month old to a chiropractor.
Oh, and if you do go with a probiotic- make sure that when you add it to their food, etc, it's not with anything warm. Hope things turn around soon!
Is he eating solid food? Vitamin C rich foods like strawberries, carrots, green beans, oranges, etc.
If he eats what you eat, add more garlic to the food you cook. Garlic is a natural immunity booster too.

I admit, I'm wary of chiropractic methods. While I know some people need them, I think it's one part necessity, one part quackery. I put baby chiropractics in the second category.
My cousin swears by her chiropractor and used him to cure her son's ear infections. They terrify me, so I've stayed away. My aunt is big on homeopathic solutions and sent us this:

We've used several of the items in the kit and feel a little safer using that than plugging Motrin all the time. Hyland's also makes a lot of other baby products that aren't in the kit, including a cough syrup. Zarbees also makes an infant cough syrup that's all natural.

Yes, I am definitely going to try to increase vitamin c rich foods! Thanks ladies!
We were careful to choose a chiropractor who specializes with children's issues and had lots of positive reviews. I'm a believer since I've gone myself for infertility and other things.
We also use hylands products and feed lots of antioxidant foods.
