BC Question

Did anyone not go on BC after their LO was born?  And why?

I didn't go on BC.  I have never been on it before, and didn't want to screw with my body.  For some reason, the IUDs freak me out, and I don't want to be on hormonal BC.  We use condoms as our BC.  As I'm currently waiting for AF's arrival, and about to surpass my longest pp cycle, I'm freaking out and wondering if I should go on it.  I honestly don't think I could be pregnant, we haven't dtd enough since the last af for it to be a possibility.  I just have had cramps the past 3 days, and that was a symptom I had prior to my BFP.  So pretty much my mind is just getting away from me.  And I know that even with BC it's possible to get pregnant.  Just wanted to know if there were any other bumpies that were on the same page as me.  :)

Re: BC Question

  • We decided not to use BC. I feel the chances of me naturally getting pregnant are slim (not impossible) but if it was to happen we would be ok with that. We had sex 3 weeks ago, I took a test just to be sure. I have not had a cycle yet.

I hate BC pills, every one they have tried me on has had terrible side effects.

  • I was on BC for 9 years before going off and getting pregnant. BUT, while I was pregnant I swore I wasn't going to go back on it. Mostly because I wanted to be natural and not have all that in my body. BUT, that didn't last haha. I quickly realized I'd be too paranoid about getting pregnant too early. So now we use BC AND condoms! Yes, I'm paranoid. Haha. Anyhoo... I bet your body is just adjusting it's cycles back to normal. I haven't had a problem with the mini pill and plan to use the regular pill (and no more condoms) once I'm done breastfeeding.

I feel more comfortable now, but I may regret it once I go off again to try to get pregnant in a few years. I just think it ins't good to put all those hormones in your body, yet I chose to do it anyways for my own piece of mind. To each their own.

  • I'm not. The pill makes me into a raging lunatic and we will have our next one within 5 years.

We are using the pullout method. It worked for us for a year until we decided to TTC. Even if I do get pregnant, I'm OK with that.

  • We're using condoms also...I can't take the hormones I get blinding migraines and I'm horrible at remembering to take it and I'm terrified of having an IUD so there's that! Pull out method is another option ha ha...I'm sure your body is just adjusting and your period will return to normal
  • I have a IUD. I was freaked out by them too, before I got one, but it was really not bad at all, and now I love it. The only side effect I've had is some light irregular bleeding.

Another hormone-free option is natural family planning. The sympto-thermal method is pretty effect (I think like 98%) when done correctly. It takes a lot of discipline and self-control. DD is a result of a lack of discipline, not of an actual failure of the method.

I really hated the pill, so we used this for over a year before TTC. (Also made TTC super easy) Like PP said it works great when done correctly. Unfortunately, I am EBF and this isn't really an option now. We're using condoms now most of the time...

  • I didn't. K is EBF, so I would have to go on the mini pill. My doc said you need to be meticulous at taking it for it to be effective. I suck at taking the pill at the same time everyday. I had switched to the nuva ring because of it. So I won't be getting the ring again until I'm done breast feeding.

  • I didn't.

I was on BC before I got pregnant for a long time to help correct my PCOS. I wanted to see how my body would react after giving birth and having PCOS. I have already had a period PP. I hope my cycle will go back to normal. I am really working on my weight loss to help with that as well. Also, we want to have another LO soon and being on and off BC is not ideal for us.

  • We did not go on bc afterwards. I was on bc with no problems before we were ttc. I was only off of them for 2 weeks before getting pregnant. However, too many class action lawsuits against Mirena for my liking and I am terrified even the mini pill might hurt my supply and I am very paranoid about that. Not to mention the fact that I was never the greatest at taking my pills exactly on time. I am also a little worried with only the condoms, I have not had Af yet, however they have never failed me in the past so I'm not sure why I would think they would now.

  • I was on BC for years prior to TTC both of my LO's I got back on the Depo after P was born. Haven't been on the shot four about 3 years. I hated the pill and Nuva ring was just uncomfortable. I didn't get an IUD because the risks freaked me out.
