Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Please share your baby's feeding schedule.

My LO will be 6 months next week. He is exclusively on soy based formula and has five 7oz. bottles per day. I tried Gerber's strawberry & banana baby food - small amounts once a day for 3 days then 1 day of Gerber's sweet potato before he developed bad gas. I discontinued for about a week before trying a very small amount of oatmeal mixed with his soy formula. I've done this for about 3 days now and though he had a little bout of gas this morning, he's otherwise been fine.

What should my next step be? If anyone would be willing to share their babies feeding schedule, that would be great. TIA

  • We do
    Morning Bottle 6oz

2 tablespoons either oatmeal or barley mixed with two tablespoons fruit followed by a bottle

    Around noon another bottle 6oz

Late afternoon we do two tablespoons of a fresh pureed veggie followed by a bottle

Bottle then between 4 and 5 then another at bedtime. 6 oz each
  • Also he will be 6 months on the 18th:
  • We just started solids last Saturday and skipped cereal. She has had sweet potatoes, acorn squash, peas and prunes since she got a little gassy. The prunes have helped. We offer her food during lunch and dinner, in between breast feeding. I always BF her first, wait an hour, then offer her solids. I let her eat till she doesn't want anymore. Usually 1 jar a day, more or less.

Thanks for the info. How are the prunes prepared?

  • My little guy eats like a horse! So far we tried sweet potatoes, peas, avocado, pears, bananas, apples, squash, zucchini, carrots, brown rice, and oat meal. Using the four day introducing rule, he has not had any reactions, if anything his poop is more solid.

6:30 am- 6-8 oz ff bottle

8am- 2 oz fruit mixed with oatmeal, 5 oz bottle (sometimes doesn't finish the bottle)

12pm ish - 2oz fruit, 2 oz veggie, 5 oz bottle (sometimes doesn't finish the bottle)

    3pm ish- 6 oz bottle

5:30pm- 2 oz veggie mixed with brown rice cereal, 5 oz bottle, sometimes doesnt finish

    7:30pm- 6 oz bottle

was worried i was feeding him too much but peditrician, said not to worry about that, and that i just have a champion eater. even eating like a horse, he still is on the smaller size (16lbs)

  • We started off very slowly with solids. DS had had gas issues I early in life so I didn't want to push new things too fast. In the beginning, he would continue to have a bottle every 3-4 hours, and oatmeal and a little bit of fruit only once a day, at night And not even every day, just about 3 or 4 days a week. We slowly increased amounts and frequency. Now, at 8 months, he still takes a bottle every 3-4 hours, but he has started cutting his formula intake from 8 oz to 4-6 oz at a time. He eats twice a day, at lunchtime and a late supper. I mix his cereal with 2 oz of formula and he also has about a 1/3 to a 1/2 of a cup or so of fruit or a fruit/ vegetable combo. So far, so good. He has tried bananas, apples, pears, blueberries, strawberries, carrots, peaches, squash, sweet potatoes, avacadoes, mangoes, cherries, prunes, grapes, spinach, kiwi, beets, raspberries, green beans, peas. I'm sure there is more I'm forgetting. All are pur?ed and a lot of them have been in a mix, so not just straight kiwi or beets or anything like that. He is not a fan of veggies, but he will eat them when combined with fruit.

We have been pureeing most of her food with BM but the prunes we bought. They are Gerber Naturals and the only ingrediants are prunes and
    water.
  • I would say just continue adding in solids, trying only one new item at a time for at least 4 days to monitor any reactions. DS has MSPI so we have been very cautious in introducing new food to him.

Here is his schedule, more or less:

    8am 8oz bottle
9 or 9:30am usually some oatmeal mixed with fruit, or just a container of food. Roughly 2.5 oz.
    11:30am 6oz bottle
    3:00pm 6oz bottle
    6:00pm 6oz bottle
6:30 or 7:00pm veggie, usually 1 container so about 2.5 oz.
We always offer him a few more oz of formula before bed which is usually around 8. Sometimes he takes them, sometimes he doesn't. I should also add DS is 7.5 months and weighs 22 lbs.

  • My little man is 6 months. He has been eating two meals a day since 5 months. He eats 3 tbsp of oatmeal around 11ish and 2 oz of a veggie at 5ish. We are going to start fruit today. He nurses in the morning around 6, and gets 2 (5oz) BM bottles at the sitter. I feed him again around 4:00 and 7:30 for bedtime. He usually sleeps through the night. We have cut out night nursing, so that gives him a 7:30-6:00 sleeping schedule.
