Ok, I've made it to 8 months EBF, and I'm sure I could make it to a year, but I really want to get pregnant again. I feel kind of selfish stopping BFing in the hopes of having better luck TTC.

Has your period returned? Generally, if you've got regular periods, you're ovulating and bf-ing doesn't have much impact on fertility. Pregnancy can cause your milk supply to decrease, though, so supplementing may be necessary if you do get pregnant.

I waited until DS was over a year to TTC and our continued BFing had no impact.

My period returned at 7 months pp with DS1. I charted bbt and my luteal phase was pretty short (8-9 days). I ended up starting Vitex at the start of my cycle that started right after DS1 turned a year old. I got pregnant that cycle. If you haven't gotten your period back yet then you can try cutting out middle of the night feedings to see if that will get your period back. If you have it back and it isn't healthy as far as being able to conceive there are several things you can try that don't include weaning. B-Complex, Vitex, Flaxseed Oil to name a few. I'm currently TTC #3. I got my cycle back 11 months pp this time around. My luteal phase is only 7-8 days at this point so I started taking flaxseed oil this cycle. We will see what happens! I don't plan to wean though. Oh, and as far as nursing while pregnant..I ended up weaning DS1 at about 16 months. I was about 15 weeks along and my milk supply was pretty non existent at that point. He was okay with it so it worked out well. Good luck!

I don't have my cycle yet, and I don't do middle of the night feedings presently, she STTN. I had fertility problems concieving DD. I don't really want to stop BFing, but I'm worried even a small impact on top of my fertility problems may not help matters.

You have to decide what is best for your family. Is waiting a few months an option so that you make it to a year? Is there a reason you need/want to get pregnant now and does that outweigh your desire to BF to a year? There really is no right or wrong way to do it.

FWIW, DD is well over 2 and I feel guilty that this pregnancy is causing her to wean...which is silly as she is most likely ready to wean anyway. I don't think there is ever a point as a mother that you don't feel guilty about something. You just have to make decisions and make peace with them as best you can.

What is 4 months in the grand scheme of things? If I were in your situation I'd wean at a year and then TTC full force! LOL
