High-Risk Pregnancy

Preterm contractions :-(

I went to L&D last night for exams to follow up on my nurse telling me I was having pre-term contractions and needed partial bedrest.

When I got there they were great, the nurse asked why I was there I explained the situation and said I thought I had 9 contractions in the 35minutes it took me to get dressed and out the door, she gave me a funny look.  Sure enough the monitors showed contractions every 3 mintues while at rest. Oddly these ones I was only noticing a few of, when I stand and move around they get a lot more painful and I notice them.  I am a little more concerned that they are happening around the clock and not just when I am moving around.

I was still holding out hope they would tell me I was wrong and they weren't contractions.  Good news is they did an exam and I am not dilated and all looked well.  They did the test (ffn?) that came back negative so they are pretty confident baby will not come in the next 2 weeks. So I am really excited about that.

The L&D then got swamped with pregnant ladies and I really wanted to go home so I was basically told to follow the instructions I got Tuesday (partial bed rest) and follow up with my high-risk team.  I will call them this morning for further instructions.

Re: Preterm contractions :-(

  • I had preterm labor with my other 2 and was put on terbutaline until I reached full term. I didn't have them quite as frequently but my cervix displayed to 2 cm so better safe than sorry. Hope the rest helps.

  • Did they put you on procadia? I pray that you can keep LO in there a few more weeks.

  • How far along are you?

I have an irritable uterus and started noticing contractions at 26w4d.  At their most frequent, they were 2 minutes apart (some I felt, some I didn't).  I was placed on bedrest at 28w after some slight cervical shortening.  Staying in bed (and at home) has reduced the frequency and intensity of the contractions.  What instructions did they give you for coming back in?  When is your next appt.?

  • No meds were discussed.  I am 32 weeks.

I called my high-risk team (type 1 diabetes) this morning and my doctor said I am to rest, relax and take it easy. If they get more painful or come more often I need to go to hospital right away.  My next appointment is in 1.5 weeks. They said to call them as often as I need.

So I just sit around and wait!  I am trying to pay more attention to timing now.

  • I replied to your last post before I saw this one.  I am sorry your contractions are so frequent.  I hope they slow down.  still praying for you and LO.
