Anybody who has already announced their name choices, already having issues?
I thought that if ANYTHING, our family would have more trouble pronouncing Isla correctly. Nope. They can say Isla JUST fine. It's our other girls name that they can't seem to get right and it's already bugging me having to correct the same exact people all the time. Her name is Halle. I have heard, "hail" "hailey" and "holly".....I don't understand how it's so confusing. Hailey I understand and knew we'd get but the others were a surprise to me.
Anyone else out there?
Re: Names
Just curious, but how DO you pronounce Halle? I've been staring at it for a few minutes trying to figure it out!
Our potential names are secret so I can't comment on the rest.
Me too. I'm a little surprised that you've had so many weird pronounciations of the name already, but I guess then it gives you some warning of what's to come? We haven't had issues pronouncing our son's name (Elliott), but have definitely gotten a variety of spellings. Great-grandma spelled it wrong on his Christmas stocking... I didn't have the heart to correct her. We still haven't picked a name for this LO, so not an issue yet! You picked great names, IMHO.
I'm sure glad that we didn't keep the names secret. It's much easier correcting people now than having it frustrate me when they're already here and born.
I totally pronounced Isla incorrectly, but I got Halle right!
My family is definitely not thrilled with our name choice, (FI's name), and especially since we are not married yet. The other night my dad even went so far as to ask if I could legally give the baby FI's last name if we're not married, and I'm like, you can give the baby any name you friggin want!! I gave my daughter MY last name, on their recommendation, and also because things were going badly between me and her father when she was born, so I told him that she'd have my last name until we were married (which obviously never happened).
Sorry to get off on a tangent there, but I still think my parents are looking at my FI the same way they did DD's father, that he will F up somehow and leave me. I guess it's a reasonable fear, but gee whiz, the baby is still his son, too. I hate name drama. I didn't have any with DD except her middle name, which is her father's mother's name. Always something... Oh, and DD's name (Caelyn) is always being mispronounced as "katelyn" and I'm like, THERE IS NO "T" IN HER NAME IT'S PRONOUNCED "KAY-LIN. NO T!"

I love the name Halle and would have no trouble pronouncing it, but maybe that's just because Halle is also on our list of potential names
I would just correct them and say it's pronounced like Halle Berry. If people don't know how to say her name then that's just sad lol.
FWIW, even if you name your LO something you think wouldn't cause any confusion (spelling or pronunciation), there will always be someone who asks you how to spell/pronounce it... Even with my name (Shannon, obviously)... people ask.. "is it one N or two N's?" or .. "is it with an O or an A" ... and here I was thinking it was a pretty simple name haha.
Our name is a name of a state. If people screw that up, they need to go back to 3rd grade. lol
Halle isn't hard to say and its definitely not "hail." lol They'll get it - or you can silently call them stupid for the rest of her life. Hehehe

This. Hopefully people will pronounce it correctly once they hear you say it more!

This is what I was thinking. Maybe they live under a rock?
Once people HEAR the name, there are usually no problems. I ask how to spell all names anymore because you just never know now a days.
I actually don't find it unfortunate in the least bit. It's a beautiful name and if people can't pronounce it after hearing it then I think they probably weren't listening very well to begin with.
I mean, my name is JORDAN and ive had people screw up my name. Some people are just pure idiots I guess.

I still get a little miffed when I tell people my name is Sara at Starbucks and the cup comes back "Sarah" but it is what it is. The fact of the matter is that if someone told me their name was Halle, I would assume it's spelled that way. If I saw it written, I would pronounce it like Halle Berry. The truth is, I don't know anyone else with that first name but the image of a gorgeous, grammy award winner isn't a poor one to come to mind, even though I assume you're naming her that because you like the name, not because you're crazy about the actress.
I guess it doesnt really bother me, I just don't get how people can't say it right after me saying it LOL
Definitely named for the name and not after Halle Berry!
Yeah but.. Halle and Hailey and Hale, etc. are all different names. Sarah and Sara aren't said any different, only spelled differently. Sara is Sarah is Sara.
Eww that's me too. My first whole name isn't Kate, but that's what I go by. I always hated when growing up, random adults would say Kathy instead for short, and I loathe that name.
While its a diff name, that's more NN category though rather than mispronunciation issues.
