GTKY: Wedding Date

So yesterday's post Rachael sent me made me wonder... what month were you (or are planning to be) married?  Any special reason why you chose that month/date?

Re: GTKY: Wedding Date

  • We got married on May 6 (hence the May06 part of my SN). We chose that date because it was the Saturday closest to our dating anniversary (May 11) that wasn't Mother's Day. I can't believe our 7th anniversary is just around the corner!

  • We both wanted a summer wedding because we were going to get married on Purdue's campus and didn't want a lot of student's around since it was outside. We decided July and then I seriously planned it around my AF. I just couldn't chance her coming and ruining my day lol. So July 10th it was! :)

I got married in August. It was chosen because I got engaged late March and the choices were either a long engagement (1 1/2 years, minimum, before we'd even start to plan), which neither of us wanted, or before school started up again.

This is exactly what happened to us.  We got engaged in April and married in July so we had time to prepare and move back to NY so DH could finish his last year of school.

ETA:  That's also what the 0709 is on my sn.  July '09

  • I wanted a summer wedding so my teacher friends could travel, but not too late in the summer because I didn't want it to be unbearably hot.

Also, I didn't want a cutesy date (parents 5/6/78, sister 7/7/07) so we went with 6/25/10.

  • We picked our wedding date (March 21) based on my love of 3's and because it was the spring equinox. Both are important to me spiritually. To me a wedding is a form of rebirth and so it was fitting to have it occur on the first day of spring.

  • We're getting married this year in October, sometime the weekend of October 19th.  Originally, we were getting married on a cruise in June of next year, but too many people that we wanted there couldn't make it.  Plus I started to get sad that I wouldn't be getting married in my church: the church my grandparents helped to build, the church my dad was baptised in, that I was raised in, that I had all my sacraments in, that S was baptised in.  SOOOOO, we decided on August 31 at our church.  FI's sister is due 8/24.  No good.  So October gives her time to recover, and the weekend of the 19th is NOT a West Point football weekend.

Similar situation here... We got engaged in February (the 12th actually... He told the jeweler he was going to propose on Valentine's day but he couldn't wait and proposed within minutes of seeing me after picking up the ring!). I was a teacher at the time and refused to plan a wedding during the school year. We had no intention of waiting until the following summer, so August it was!

  • We got married on Leap Day, so we've technically only had two anniversaries. We decided to get married the previous October, I think. Then sort of last minute to go for LD and go to Vegas. So that's what we did! We were poor college students and I am the least romantic person in the world, so it was perfect.

  • We got married in August, mainly because we wanted a summer wedding and that was the soonest we could get our reception venue and we booked it a year and a half in advance...kind of crazy.

  • September 10,2011.. 91011. We had originally planned for march 26th, but I was still in school and didn't want to be in school and plan a wedding that soon, and since we wanted to be married on a Saturday to make travel easier, we chose September. It ended up being the hottest day of that month at 41 degrees C.

  • August here. We picked it based upon his and his mom's oncall weekends. We had a family only ceremony. So, it was easy to accommodate.

yikes...I was in MV during Irene glad the weather changed for you!

    Yay on picking a date!

  • We got married in July only because it worked out between DH's teaching schedule and right after I graduated!

  • I voted August. H and I got married on the anniversary of when we met. Also, turns out that he wanted to get married sooner rather than later (something about making an honest woman and not letting my family think he just wanted to live with me). But in his defense--he is Midwestern (good ole' NE boy) and I did move away from PR to go to grad school there to be with him.

Pretty much this for us. He proposed on March 18th a d we were married June 3rd 2011. We had been dating for almost 9 years....there was no way I wanted a long engagement. We decided to check out venues to see if it was possible to do it quick. All the stars aligned and we were able to find a location and the church available on the same day. Imagine trying to convince the priest who married us that there wasn't a reason we were in a rush! LOL!

Funny add on--- exactly a year to the day he proposed....I got my positive pregnancy test!
