Went into labor before scheduled c/s -- Kat's birth story

My RCS was scheduled for 39 weeks on Monday morning.  Here's what happened the weekend before.

Friday --

1 pm: Called OB's office because I felt 'off' -- lots of strong BH, bloody mucus, etc.  He checked me, said I was at a 1 cm, did a NST and they said contrax were irregular and weak.  So I went home.

5 pm: Having irregular contrax and pressure that making doing anything difficult.

9 pm: Starting timing contrax (there's an App for that!).   I still am thinking they might be BH contrax.

Saturday --

2 am: Contrax are really painful and 5 min apart.  I call the on-call, they say to come in.  Finish packing, call mom to watch the other kids and off we go.

3 am:  Bitchy nurse in triage, who I'm sure had NEVER been in labor, tells me I'm at a 1 cm and "not in active labor."  At this point the contrax are so painful I think I might start hallucinating.  I try to explain the reason for my RCS is that I don't progress like other women in labor.

5 am: She gives me a shot of morphine and an Ambien (which is amazing when I've been scared to take a Tums for 9 months) and sends me home. Contrax slow to 10 min apart and are less painful.

6 am - 4 pm: Lay in bed all day, contrax fire back up again and are mind-numbing.  I'm in total despair that they still won't do the section because I won't be 39 weeks until Monday.  Pressure is unbearable and I'm afraid baby will come out.  Back to hospital.

5 pm:  Get to hospital, they check me....I'm a 2.  I think I might open up a bottle of apeshiit on the nurse, until the doctor comes in and says they will do the section in a hour when my bloodwork comes back, but I can't have any pain meds until then.  I'm so angry they didn't take the bloodwork that morning, but grateful there will finally be an end to the pain.

5:30pm:  Contrax are at a 10 on the pain scale and they finally take me back for the surgery.

6pm:  Our beautiful baby girl is born!  Katherine Claire (Kat) was 8.5 lbs and 19.5 inches.

We are so in love!

  • Congratulations! I cannot stand it when a nurse or doctor who has just met you presumes to know way more about you and your history just because they have medical training. Yes, of course they know more about medical issues in general and have seen a lot, but that does not mean that they know about your particular situation than you and your doctor. I'm glad that your doctor finally agreed to move the c/s up because that sounds miserable!
