Thoughts on sleep arrangement

Ok, DD outgrew her bassinet about 2 weeks ago. I have her sleeping in her PnP in the living room currently. I don't like the idea of her in the PnP every night and I also feel don't like that the humidifier isn't strong enough to work for her in such a big room.

Backstory: we are building a house, but due to complications, we won't be in our house until Fall. Until then we are in a 2 bedroom condo with open living area. Spare bedroom is currently housing our dining room table (since dining is being used for swing, PnP, etc) and a full-sized bed, desk, and dresser.

Is anyone else still sleeping with baby in their room and not planning on changing anytime soon? (crib or co-sleeping) I'm just wondering the pros and cons about where to put her crib. It will be for the next 6 months at least.

Pro: Good for her late night feed. Warmer in our room. Humidifier would help - our house is DRY. Con: Not sure TV lights would bother her. It's OUR room (ha). Wondering if all our sleep will suffer, especially if we need to do sleep training.

Our other option is to disassemble spare bed (will have to go in storage) and give her a make-shift nursery ... or to let her keep lounging in the living room.

Any thoughts and ideas would be appreciated!!

Oh and also... anyone have any thoughts on the Graco cribs? I like the Mason...looks pretty identical to the Lauren just little more cleanlined.

Thanks in advance for the help!!

  • Ummmm.... There is no way I could do that for 6 more months. I would put baby in his or her own room since you've got one and move all the stuff where it should go. At the very least, put the table in the dining room and all baby's things in with the guest room stuff.
    KEEP CALM and LATCH ON!

  • I have a graco Lauren crib that I love. We recently moved LO to her crib in her room. For us, it was the best move ever. We all sleep better now. She is a really loud little sleeper and was constantly waking me up with grunting, breathing, sighing, moving, etc. And I think her crib is more comfy than bassinet. But, it's really what works best for your family.

Yah... my thought too. I'm guessing its time to get a storage unit. Bah.

  • She has her own room, but right now she's in bed with us. I'm trying to at least get her in the co-sleeper in the next month or so, but that requires having the patience to sleep train and I don't have that in me these days.
If you don't want to get the storage unit, I'd say get the crib and put it in your room if you have the space.
  • LO sleeps in a PNP next to our bed and his big sis did the same until she outgrew it
  • A is in a pnp in our room, will be for a few more months. I like having her next to me.

  • DS outgrew his bassinet and after a few nights of DS in his crib in his nursery, I had DH take apart his crib and reassemble it in our room. Yes it affects our tv watching and whatnot but it feels more natural for me to be able to wake up and see him. It also makes nursing in the middle of the night easier. I was freezing on his rocking chair with no blanket and having to spend that much time out of bed made the night seem longer. All in all this arrangement works better for us. I'll move him back to his room when I feel ready.
  • I feel like the granola bar on this thread but DD has a crib on our bedroom. We're in a one bedroom apt and honestly it works wonderfully. She sleeps in bed with us at night so in literally never even have to get up.

She will also sleep in the crib or her bouncy chair. She's flexible and so are we. We also have the tv on and it's not an issue. So obviously I cast my vote for co sleeping. It's working great for us and I really don't understand why someone would put their baby in another room when it's so convenient to have them right there with you!!

  • Baby will be in my room until 6 months!! She was in a PnP and I just removed it and put her crib in my room to get her used to it. Come 6 months...or after she starts rolling...i'll move her to her room.

  • We have a sidecar cosleeper that we've recently transitioned to a crib. S has been in our room since night one and will be until at least 9 months.

I do have to add, sleep "training" is not always CIO. Cosleeping has made our lives so much easier and happier. We started putting S in the crib when he was drowsy at 4w. FI or I would lay next to him as he was falling asleep. By 8w he didn't need us in there with him anymore. Now at 3m, he will play in his crib for a bit and go to sleep when he's tired.

He doesn't STTN. But when he wakes to eat at 1 and 4, he eats, I lay him next to me in the mini crib, and we're both back to sleep within a few minutes. I still get 7 hours of sleep most nights with 2 MOTN feedings.

Just an alternate perspective on it for you.
