charlie horses

These darn charlie horses in my legs are making me nauseated.  I'm chugging water and doing some stretching, but nothing's really working.  I'm at work, so my options are limited when it comes to remedying them.  I guess I'll eat a banana (or 3) when I get home.  Any other suggestions for some relief?

Re: charlie horses

  • Flex your foot as soon as you feel the charlie horse coming on, do not point it.  This will stop it almost immediately.  I had one really bad and woke up screaming and DH thought I was in labor.  I googled what to do and read that tip and now whenever I feel one coming on I flex my foot and it seems to be working.  Goodluck.

  • Bananas and also making sure you're getting enough calcium too.  It is all chemistry!
  • Try drinking coconut water.  They sell them at pretty much all grocery stores now.  I think the flavored ones are better then the plain coconut water.

This. I started to feel one coming on twice this week. I flexed my foot immediately, massaged it a bit and got up and walked right away.  Neither time it amounted to anything and  I would wake up screaming as well. I posted about this before and some girls suggested banana's, which I have also added to my diet.

  • Sorry to say, it's more than just chemistry. I'm drinking tons of water, eating bananas, taking prenatal vitamins with magnesium and I have extreme leg cramps nightly. Circulation to the legs during pregnancy sucks worse for some of us than others and I'm one of the "lucky" ones, I guess. One other thing I've found helpful is making sure I don't sit for too long of a stretch during the day/night. Get up and walk around so you keep yourself stretched and circulating. Otherwise, just a little longer until our bodies return to normal - good luck!
