Bad diaper rash, advice?

Sweet baby J has a really bad rash. We are talking weeping sores on her bum cheeks.

We cloth diaper and I determined that when we had our water softener installed last week we didn't adjust our wash routine. We have that sorted and in the meantime I have her in disposables with desitin. However, I'm not seeing a lot of improvement over the last 24h in her rash. Any advice on what to do?

I swear by the Burt's Bees diaper cream. P had the worst diaper rash, and it cleared it up in a day when Desitin hardly helped at all. If over the counter creams don't help, I'm pretty sure the pedi can also prescribe something. Also, leave J's diaper off to let him air out as much as possible. GL!

Oh, so sorry to hear that J is having a bad rash!

M had a pretty bad one weeks ago; I've been slathering on Pedi-Derm Bum paste. I saw improvement within 24 hours. https://www.letourneaus.net/html/pediderm.html [I received it as a free sample; it has zinc oxide and cornstarch; I think it's similar to Triple paste.]

I use a baby washcloth (dry) to pat DD's bum dry after I finish wiping her (I do this at every diaper change). When she has any signs of diaper rash, I also leave the new diaper open and let her lie on the changing table for a few minutes to air dry a bit before putting on diaper cream and closing the diaper up.

For bad rash, I have heard that Triple Paste works well, but we've had good luck just with the max strength Desitin and/or Boudreaux's Butt Paste. Also, make sure to change your LO as soon as you notice she's wet, until the rash is gone.

Naked time and when she's in a diaper, triple paste or butt paste. If you are sure its not yeast, you can brown some flour in a skillet and put it on her bum. It sounds weird, but it works (I work in nursing homes and more than one of my patients shared this "secret" with me. Smile )

Maximum strength Desitin usually does the trick for us (has to be that formulation). Our pedi also recommends a paste of this, Lotrimin (yes, the kind used to cure athlete's foot), an OTC antibiotic cream, and hydrocortisone 3x/day.

You can also try Aquaphor. I use Bordeux Butt Paste when it starts getting bad, and then go to Aquaphor until it clears.

I agree with leaving your LO bare bottom for a bit. However keep a watchful eye out cause when I did this my LO pooped and then ate it. Gross!!! Also cornstarch works well.

definately like pp's said leaving LO without diaper to get some air & I also found stoma powder worked wonders too.

Ummm...wow. Thank goodness J is only 6w and hasn't really discovered functionality of her hands other than to eat them. She hasn't managed to get her hands down by her lady business.

Sigh, my dog eats poop, so it wouldn't surprise me if DD digs it also.

Another plug for triple paste. I swear by that stuff. It is the only cream that ever cleared up DD.

I know it was mentioned earlier, but I would suspect yeast at this point. You are BFing aren't you? I finally took the muppet to see my LC yesterday b/c we were having some minor bfing issues and low and behold, his rash is actually yeast.

Our pedi recommends A&D with Zinc (it's white, not the clear ointment). Seems to work pretty well and quickly. The other trick is to put a little cornstarch in the diaper.

I had this problem with our little one....and couldn't get it cleared up...tried triple paste and desitin. Turns out it was a rash from yeast so we needed an Rx.
