Babies: 6 - 9 Months

Pureed to Solids

Hey ladies! I started feeding my son rice cereal and fruits at 4 months. At 5 months oatmeal and fruits/veggies and now at 7 months purred pasta/meats. I introduced the mesh feeder last night with a frozen banana and he loved it! He still has no teeth yet but I am wondering when I can start giving him other foods. Sounds dumb I know as he cant chew, but I don't see anything wrong with giving him a cracker or a teether cookie to get all soggy. I just worry most about him choking. Thanks for your advice!

  • He absolutely can chew.  They chew with their gums.  Molars are the chewing teeth and they don't get those until after a year and kids definitely are eating finger foods before a year.  Give him pasta, toast strips, cheese, soft pieces of chicken or beef, soft fruits and veggies.

  • I started giving DS1 mushy stuff around 8 months, I think.

Yup, all this! My DD is just now cutting her first tooth at 8 months but has been eating cheese, pasta, soft-cooked veggies and ripe fruits with no problem. Their little gums are very strong!

  • Start to try with puffs or mums cookies for fun. They dissolve.
