Hello
We're pretty much in the beginning of navigating the landscape of providers of therapy for our son. So far we work with developmental ped and with EI. Over the next few months we'll move to the intermediate unit in our county for 3 to 5 year olds. Our dev ped recommended seeking behavioral therapy for our son. We're also in the process of applying for medical assistance which I'm told will open up more doors in terms of therapies he qualifies for. On my own I find physcologists who may provide behavior therapy. So I guess my question is given the diagnosis of developmental delay and possible ASD who or how many make up your team? At this point we have dev ped, the county EI and IU, two speech therapists, an OT, and a special instructor. And now maybe potentially a psychologist or beahvior therapist. I just am wondering if this is the typical mix are there others I should be researching? Are their too many? Who makes up your treatment team?
Thanks for your help!
Re: Dev Delay/ Possible ASD - Who is on your team?
My DD is developmentally delayed and is being evaluated for potential autism. We have an OT, SLP and a developmental interventionist that she has one on one sessions with. We do aquatic therapy for low tone for 60 minutes once a week. We also do social group for 90 minutes 2xs a week to work on social skills along with floortime therapy to work on functional play skills intertwined into it.
I specifically asked what would change if we get an autism dx. They said nothing. They're already treating the symptoms she's presenting with currently so the diagnosis wouldn't change anything on their end.
What kinds of therapy would be appropriate would vary on a case by case basis.
My son has an autism diagnosis. He was diagnosed by a neurologist at one hospital and a developmental pediatrician and a psychologist at another hospital. We're following up with the neuro for now. We may consult with the others for IEP evaluation purposes or switch to a developmental pediatrician as his primary in the future.
Therapy-wise, he gets 28 hours of 1:1 ABA, 90 minutes of EI social skills group with his ABA therapist present, 1 hour of private speech, and 1 hour of EI speech per week. The team is three ABA therapists (the primary is with us 4/5 days a week), a BCBA supervisor, two SLPs, one EI caseworker, and a partridge in a pear tree. There is a third SLP and an OT through the ABA specialty service provider who consult monthly and help write his programs. We declined OT through EI for sensory integration or he'd be receiving that, too.
Currently DD has a SLP, OT, Behavior Therapist, and a SNA (Special Needs Assistant who attends preschool with her and also does home therapies too). We also have a pychologist on our team but have only seen her once so far. DD was also approved recently for a community aide (someone to attend lessons like swimming or just go to the grocery store with us - always with me there too).
Her new school has certified music therapist, not sure what that is but am excited to see!

B has a PDD-NOS Dx.
At preschool he has a Special Ed Teacher, SLP, and OT.
On the medical side he was Dx by a psychologist but follow ups at with his Developmental Pedi. He also has two SLPs (they're both in his weekly social speech class) and an OT.
