Dark orange urine...feel like crying!!!

I just got over a stomach virus where I couldn't eat or drink for a couple of days.  I was feeling better today and I'm finally back to my normal diet.  Right before that I just got over antibiotics for a sinus infection and I'm still finishing up medicine for a YI.  Then today my urine is dark orange.  I'm worried but I honestly feel like crying.  Sorry if tmi but I feel a break down coming on.  I'm going to call the doctor bc I've never had this happened but I didn't know if anyone has experienced anything like this in terms of the urine.  Thank in advance for any advice...

  • Try not to worry too much... it could just be that you are really dehydrated from being sick.  Best wishes :)

  • Sounds to me like you're pretty dehydrated. As long as your LO is still moving around and active, I would try to hydrate myself tonight and if you don't see any changes in your urine color, then call your doctor and try to see him tomorrow. You might need fluids. Hopefully it's just dehydration. Good luck and feel better!
  • I wouldn't worry!  Antibiotics can make your urine weird colors, as does dehydration.  So I'd just drink a ton of water and have some gatorade and keep an eye on it!

  • I had a stomach bug on Mon to Tues for a little more than 24 hours and had the same orange urine. I was very dehydrated and I spent Wed drinking water all day. It was better within a few hours. Good luck!

  • Are you taking iron supplements?  When I did my GTT they found that I was anemic.  Now I have to take prescription strength iron supplements.  When I picked them up the pharmacist informed me that they might make my urine dark orange or red.  I'm sure there are a lot of things that can cause this. Especially if you've been sick or on meds.  I would give your OB a call.  Just try not to freak out quite yet.  There are lots of things that could be causing it.  If you are worried something is really wrong call your OB's after hours line and see if you should be headed in to L&D.  GL!

  • I am almost sure it's due to not enough fluids. Keep drinking that water and if nothing changes overnight call the doctor.
  • I hope it's that I'm dehydrated. I'm chugging water but if nothing changes I will call the doctor in the morning.

  • Get pedialight to help with dehydration instead of Gatorade. That's what they told me to do when I had the flu.

  • You may just be slightly dehydrated and also seeing effects from the antibiotics.  I don't remember which one it was, but I've had antibiotics for a kidney/bladder infection a couple times, and it turned my urine very dark orange (the Dr. had warned me about it when prescribing the meds).  It may just be your meds in combination with being dehydrated after being sick.

  • I agree with others that it might be dehydration, antibiotics, or vitamins.  I give myself shots of b12 monthly now, but when I took them orally, my urine was definitely orange and smelled like vitamins.

  • I had this a few weeks ago... maybe around 25 weeks? I freaked out too thinking my kidneys or liver were messed up. it lasted probably 3 days, on and off, but at some points it was really dark, amber colored. I called my on call OB and she told me to just stay hydrated and come in for a culture after the weekend. It went away as quickly as it started and the culture came back clean. At my next monthly appt my OB said to just chalk it up to weird pregnancy symptoms.

HTH and try to stay hydrated!
