39 week appt: Stretch??

My 39wk appt was yesterday, and my MW said LO has officially "dropped". Her head is very low, and I'm not dilated at all. I'm about 50% effaced. I've been having lots of irregular, non-painful contractions every day. My EDD is Saturday, and she said she will not let me go past next Thurs. She told me she really thinks I'll be coming in some time this weekend, but if not, I have an appt Tues for an u/s, NST, and to schedule an induction for Thurs. I really did not want to have to be induced. She offered to "stretch" my cervix tomorrow (Friday) to see if it will help any. I'm not really familiar with this procedure. I made the appt for it though, because I'm hoping it will help me avoid an induction. I've heard a lot about sweeping, but not stretching. Is it the same thing? Sorry that's such a dumb question!
