Swim lessons!

Excited that tonight is Evan's first swimming lesson. He'll be 3 months on the 15th. Is anyone else planning on doing mommy/me swim classes? I tried on his the swim diaper and it is so huge on him. He's in size 2 and they only come in 3/4 for the smallest.

Where are you doing them this young? When I did some research everywhere I found started at 6 months.

Yeah! I heard Six months, too... but I had no idea why. I cant wait for mommy and me swim time!!!!

I plan on doing this with DD but every place that I have looked at in our starts at 6 months.

Well, uh, my profession is a swim instructor/lifeguard sooo I'll be doing the lessons myself! I'm planning on getting a pool membership soon for the two of us. Have fun in the class though

I'm sure it'll be lots of fun!

We are going to kids first swim school. The class I am going to starts at 3 months. Evan is the youngest and he did a pretty good job. We dunked him under the water and did some kicking. Next week he will be under the water and pushed toward me by the instructor. He did some of the exercies, but not everything. I think it was a little much at some points, but it was good. He did manage to pee on me after I got him out of the shower.

Wow. This surprises me a little bit. I'm glad he's having fun with swimming, but I've never heard of having infants getting dunked underwater so early. I am a Red Cross certified water safety instructor. All we do with young infants is hold them up to their waist, maybe neck, and let them splash, sing songs and do some other movement as an adult holds them. I'm not saying it's wrong, I just wouldn't personally teach a class going underwater until the child was closer to a year old. I believe that's why most classes are 6 months plus.

We are so fortunate. DH works for a college so we have access to the pool for free. I probably will just bring CJ starting in the summer to swim indoors when it rains. We also have an outdoor pool in our apartment complex that opens for the summer we can use, and there is a beach about 30. Min away which for 50$ for the summer we can use whenever we want (it's a NYS park pass so we would be able to go to any state park). I plan on taking advantage of all 3 this summer when Im off and doing lots of day trips to local museums, parks etc. I can't wait!

Ours started at 6 weeks, but it's not a "swim lesson" really. It's kind of like a water aerobics while wearing your baby class for mom. They don't go in past their waist, just some splashing and water introduction. He'll start with "lessons" and going underwater at 9 months.

On the diaper though, I use a cloth swim diaper. I got mine at The Honest Company for like $15. If anyone wants to order, just let me know and I will send you an invite to the website. (I'd post it here, but MandJS will go all internet thug on me for spamming the BMB!)
