Leapfrog Laptop recommendations

I am going to a huge consignment sale in a few weeks and want to look for a Leapfrog laptop for H.  I don't know really anything about these things but she loves our laptops, so I want to get her one she can bang around on. I want it to be able to take the abuse of a toddler but also have the ability to grow with her so she can play games and do activities on it later.

Any recommendations?  If I buy an older one am I going to be able to find games/activities for it or do those get phased out pretty quickly when the newest version comes out?

  • I have the my own leaptop. It is very durable. There is really not much to do on it though. You can customize it and download messages and what songs you want but there are not really games etc. It has songs, the alphabet, animal sounds etc.

  • Ok, are there other types of laptops that toddlers/kids use to actually play games and do activities?

We have two of these, Gator loves them. When you turn it on, it says "Hi Gator!" You can customize the emails. So she gets emails from me, her daddy, and the dog. Lol. We got both from a consignment shop and the first one broke. I don't know if the previous owner was rough with it or whatnot, but it lasted us for 9mo. So I tried out other laptops on her that cousins had, she didn't like them as much. I ended up going back to the consignment store and getting another. She was so excited, she gasped and then said "WOW!"

  • I forgot to mention that although it doesn't have a ton of games, there are things you can do with it. In the piano mode, you can play songs. In the animal mode, it will ask you questions about animals and you have to find the correct letter. In the ABC mode, you can push different letters and it will announce the letter and then something that starts with that letter. And then the first letter of your child's name, like with Gator, it says "G! That's the first letter of your name Gator! Lets celebrate your letter!" And will play a song. You can also customize what songs it plays, so if you get sick of the three songs playing over and over, you can get back on your computer and change the songs to different songs.
