OOOOOOOOOOOOOK so I started typing this earlier this afternoon (during my kids' naptime) and was interrupted by Harper's teacher coming into my preschool classroom and telling me she was breathing funny. So I raced down to her room and she was asleep on her cot breathing very shallow and fast. I checked her hands, feet, lips and tongue and her hands were a little purple but everything else looked pretty pink. That woke her up enough that she saw I was there and then was crying pretty hard. I carried her down to our break room where I called the doctor immediately, her breathing was pretty labored. Also, since last night she's been coughing pretty hard. So bad that she was waking herself up every time she coughed last night crying. They wanted to see her immediately.
When we got there he said it was croup, and they gave her a nebulizer. IN THE MEANTIME, our family friend who is a nurse in the cardio department of the hospital across the street from our office has been relaying all of Harper's symptoms to the cardiologist she works for. He thought she should have an echo as soon as possible, and she called me with this information while we were doing the nebulizer. So I asked our doctor and he wrote us the order and we have an appointment for an echocardiogram at 9am tomorrow morning!
The neb did help her breathing, so I'm sure she probably does have croup on top of this. But, our cardio nurse friend said that many infections in such a short amount of time can mean more, so I'm glad we are having this test done. Thank you for all your thoughts and considerations throughout all of my posts!! She is currently happy, eating a banana, and woofing at me because our dog wants let back in.
